About Chrome OS

What's the difference between Chromebooks and other computers with Windows or Mac OS?

Pixelbook Go is powered by Chrome OS, so it automatically updates itself and you always have the latest virus protection built-in.1 To keep you extra secure, the Titan™ C security chip stores your device information and passwords, and protects your operating system. Using the Google Pixelbook Pen with Google Assistant is no longer supported.

Note: If you want to use your Pixelbook Go at work or school, you might need to ask your organization's admin to turn on Web & App activity for your group to use Google Assistant. If your Pixelbook Go is a personal device (not issued by your organization), you can  sign in with your personal account, rather than your work or school account.

1Internet connection required

Can Chrome OS work offline?

Yes. You can use offline-ready apps to keep your Pixelbook Go in use when it's not connected to the Internet. Here are some examples:

  • Read and write emails with Offline Gmail — Messages you write, archive, label, or delete while you’re offline are either sent or moved to Drafts once you connect to the Internet

  • Create and edit documents, slides, or spreadsheets with Google Drive apps (Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides)
  • View and RSVP to events with Google Calendar — When you're back online, the event organizer can see your response
  • View and edit photos saved with the built-in photo editor
  • Enjoy music or movies you've downloaded with the built-in media player or with YouTube Music and Google Play Movies & TV

Pixelbook Go comes with at least a 64 GB solid state hard drive. You can store your files on your device or in the cloud with Google Drive. Google Drive automatically backs up your most recent Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides files so you can access and edit them offline. You can even create new files offline that will be synced next time you’re back online.1

With Google Drive, your data is stored in Google's highly secure data centers. The Terms of Service make clear that "what belongs to you stays yours."

Note: If your account uses more than 15 GB when the 100 GB storage period ends, your existing files remain, but you can no longer edit them, add new files, or send or receive new emails on that account until you clear space or renew your Google One membership.
