Take a photo or video with your Pixelbook

Use the camera on your Pixelbook to take photos or video.

  1. If you haven't yet, sign in to your device.
  2. In laptop mode: In the corner of your screen, select the Launcher Launcher and then Up arrow Up arrow
    In tablet mode: Go to your Home screen. To get there, select the Launcher Launcher in the corner of your screen.
  3. Select Camera Camera
  4. If this is your first time using the camera on your device, you'll have the option to add locations to your photos. You can always turn this off in the Camera app's Settings.
  5. Choose what you'd like to do:
    • Take a photo Take photo
    • Record a video Switch to record video and then Start recording Start recording

Switch between cameras

If your device has 2 built-in cameras, you can select which camera you want to use. To do this, select Switch camera Toggle camera

Set focus and exposure

Tap the object or area in the frame you want your photo to focus on.

To lock the exposure and focus, long-press on the screen. To turn off locking, tap anywhere in the frame.

Take a photo with portrait mode (Pixel Slate only)

Make the subject of your photo stand out by blurring the background. Portrait mode works with both front and rear-facing cameras and uses machine learning to recognize human subjects. It does not yet work with pets or objects.

To use portrait mode, open the camera and select Portrait

Use gridlines to straighten photos

Select Grid grid to adjust the alignment of your photo.

Take a photo using a timer

You can set a timer for 3 or 10 seconds.

  1. Open the camera and select timer Toggle timer
  2. Select the amount of time you want. The timer will start once you click or tap Take photo Take photo

To cancel taking a photo with the timer, click or tap Take photo Take photo again.

See all photos and videos you've taken

In the bottom right corner of the Camera Camera, select the thumbnail of your most recent photo or video. To see the photo or video larger, double-click or double-tap it. You can also view your photos and videos in the Files app Files and in Google Photos . To learn how to do this, see Related articles.

Change your camera settings

Made adjustments in the Camera app's settings.

Change the resolution

  1. From the Camera app, select Settings Settings in the top left corner.
  2. Select the resolution setting you want to change.
  3. Select the resolution you want.
  4. To return to Camera, tap the back arrow or anywhere outside the Settings menu.

Turn location sharing on or off

  1. From the Camera app, select Settings Settings in the top left corner.
  2. Next to "Save location," select the toggle to turn location sharing on or off.

Turn camera sounds on or off

  1. From the Camera app, select Settings Settings in the top left corner.
  2. Next to "Camera sounds," select the toggle to sounds on or off.

Save photo or video

Photos and videos taken with the Camera app can be found in the Downloads folder of your Files app. To learn how to store your downloaded files, see Related articles.

If you use Google Photos, your photos and videos will also be available in the Google Photos app under "Device folders." To get there:

  1. In laptop mode: Select the Launcher Launcher and then Up Arrow Up arrow Google Photos Photos
    In tablet mode: Go to your Home screen. To get there, select the Launcher Launcher in the bottom corner of your screen. Then tap Google Photos Photos
  2. Select Menu Menu and then Device folders and then Download.
