Creating custom RSS feeds

Using custom RSS feeds, you can channel specific Picasa Web Albums public images related to particular text, tags, and geotags to anywhere you'd like, including screensavers or digital picture frames. Create a custom RSS feed with Picasa Web Albums query parameters to specify which of your public images you'd like to display.

Here are a few example filters you can use as your custom RSS feed:

  1. Tag filters
    • Feed format: http://photos.googleapis.com/data/feed/base/user/[username]?kind=photo&alt=rss&tag=[query]
    • Example: http://photos.googleapis.com/data/feed/base/user/HuckleberryHound?kind=photo&alt=rss&tag=vacation
    • In this example, 'Huckleberry Hound' is the Google Account username and 'vacation' is the requested tag. This RSS feed would include all public photos in the account that have been tagged with the word 'vacation.'
  2. Text filters
    • Feed format: http://photos.googleapis.com/data/feed/base/user/[username]?kind=photo&alt=rss&q=[query]
    • Example: http://photos.googleapis.com/data/feed/base/user/YogiTheBear?kind=photo&alt=rss&q=picnic
    • In this example, 'YogiTheBear,' is the Google Account username, and 'picnic' is the requested text. This RSS feed would include all public photos in the account that include the words 'picnic' as a title, caption, or geotag.
  3. Geotag filters
    • Feed format: http://photos.googleapis.com/data/feed/base/user/[username]?kind=photo&alt=rss&l=[query]
    • Example: http://photos.googleapis.com/data/feed/base/user/FredFlintstone?kind=photo&alt=rss&l=Bedrock
    • In this example, 'FredFlintstone,' is the Google Account username, and 'Bedrock' is the requested geotag. This RSS feed would include all public photos in the account that contain data in the named location of 'Bedrock.'
