Picasa Web Albums and Google Profiles

Photos are often a big part of who you are. Picasa Web Albums has teamed with Google Profiles and Google+ to make it even easier for people to find the photos you’ve shared with them.

New profile with tabs

If you’re new to Picasa Web Albums, you’ll create a Google profile (or add your existing one) during the sign-up process. If you already use Picasa Web Albums, the choice is yours. If you decide you’d like to use a profile, go to the My Photos tab and click Showcase your Photos on the right-hand side.

This same Google profile and your Picasa Web albums will be added to Google+ (if you join). Learn more about how Google+ and Picasa Web Albums are connected.

Here’s how it works:

As the profile owner, you can see all of your own public albums as well as those that you've shared with other people on the Photos tab.

  • Visitors to your profile can see your full name and your public Picasa Web Albums.
  • Your private albums stay private. Only the people with whom they've been shared can see them.
  • Your profile name and photo will be displayed in Picasa Web Albums (and in other products like Google+).
  • Existing comments, likes, and albums will be associated with the name you’ve chosen on your profile.

Above all, remember that you control who sees your albums and where. Preview what your profile looks like from someone else's perspective. Your best form of control is to actively manage the album visibility. On your profile, you can also hide the Photos tab from public view, in addition to controlling whether your Google profile can be found in search results.
