Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.
If no, then please give the below steps a try to help resolve the issue:
- Close the Google Photos app and re-launch it.
- Sign out and sign back in to Google Photos with the same Google Account.
- Clear App data:
- Open your device's Settings app (not the Google Settings app).
- Touch Apps.
- Select Google Photos in the list.
- Touch Clear data.
- Update the Google Photos app on your Android phone:
- Visit the Google Play Store.
- Open Google Photos.
- Touch on Update.

Yes my videos play from google photos. However ive tested downloading my .mov videos from a pc (wmp) and a mac (qt) and in both cases the video refuses to work but audio is fine. When I attempt to play them from vlc player i get a “hvc1” error and vlc wont play them, not even the audio.

You can't do what your trying to do, because those are stolen photos and identity theft! Cease and decrease.

Same problem here as well. Took a video with my android phone. Downloaded it later on to my PC (running Windows), and now my own video won't play. What's up with that ?

Was a cause and solution found. I have this problem. They play online. I've had them sent to Whatsapp and they play. BUT downloading them - and incidentally Dropbox too they play only sound. I'd be really grateful for pointers

Also having this issue, Cmon google fix this shit its ridiculous. Audio is the only thing downloading to PC, we cant even change what file type we want to download it as.

hi Guys same thing with me Videos downloaded from Google photos to my home computer only play the sound not the film , did anyone sort this out it's very upsetting be cause they are videos I have of my family.

Found a solution. Purchased the Any MP4 converter from the App Store on my iMac $30 and converted it to HD MOV video. I am no longer using google photos. Had to turn all the stupid HEIC Files to jpg too so I could read them. Waste of a weekend.
