Hi Everyone,

We’re launching a redesigned Google Photos starting today! It’s easier than ever to find your favorite memories with streamlined navigation, and we’ve unveiled some exciting new features to check out.

What changed?
  • On the app, you’ll notice new tabs for Photos, Search and Library.
  • Access your shared content by tapping on the “conversation” icon at the top, left.
  • You may notice the 3-bar Menu has disappeared. To access Settings, click your account profile photo or initial at the top, right then select Photos settings.
  • To access your Archive, Trash, and the Print Store on the app, tap Library at the bottom.
  • We streamlined tabs on the Photos app, and removed For You as part of this redesign. For You remains on photos.google.com.
  • You can view creations made for you in your Memories carousel on the Photos tab, and suggestions cards can be found in Library > Utilities.

What’s new?
  • A map view! Reminisce on where you were with a new Photos map view. To view the map on the Photos app, tap the Search tab at the bottom and explore the map under Places. Learn more about this feature.
  • Our icon gets a refresh

If you don’t see these changes yet, you should soon! Read more about the redesign. We hope you like the new look and layout. Let us know what you think!

Thanks,
Kate and the Google Photos team

I just opened the app and everything looks the same, i even have the 3 lines menu! hmm...?
edit: when my app opened, i was logged into my edu account; i just switched to my regular gmail and the UI changed! i'm guessing it has something to do with the edu account, strange.

Very sad to learn the 'For You' has been removed. No more Google Photos AI creations!?! Now we have to use an actual computer to access Google Photos website, BIG BUMMER! I have always loved the movie, animation, collage, and especially color pop creations. Please bring this back!!!

Hi,
I'm not seeing these Maps features in today's updates for the Google Photos iOS apps, even though I am seeing the Maps feature in the screenshots for the apps in the iOS App Store.. any ideas? Was the Maps feature not rolled out today after all?
Thanks, Nick

Would be nice if this new android version of the app would finally get the option like the IOS version to allow a size limit for the cache. If you have lots of photos like I do, you soon find your phone has 5 GB+ of cached thumbnails, killing the phone. This has been going on for years. You would think it wouldn't be that hard to duplicate cache limit feature in Android from IOS!!!!!!

I'm getting a feeling archived photos don't show up in your photo map. This is a big lose for me. For example I archive my work photos since I don't really need them in my main feed but I still can search and find them easily.

Having my work photos in my map view is a killer feature for me since I do all returning work with to 1000s of job sites a year.

This new update is rolling out to iOS and Android users over the next few days. Your may have noticed the new icon, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have the new version yet.

You can still make your own creations on the Photos app by going to Library > Utilities > then select create animation, movie or collage. For You is also available on the web at photos.google.com/foryou.

Wow, "exciting new features" from Google. Like no more 3-line menu! Now that's truly exciting!! Why don't you fix stuff people care about. Like Google's refusal to list photo albums alphabetically instead of by dates. That has only been a pain in the keister for 5 or 6 years. MS Photos and Google Photos are great for ambitionless teenie boppers.

As if this year hasn't taken enough from us already... The thing that users seem to have really loved a lot about Photos, For You, bites the dust. Can Google at least explain WHY they took away such a beloved-by-many feature? Could they consider reintroducing the feature with an OPT-IN to avoid clashing with those people who use Google's free services all day long but still complain that Google is stealing their privacy? The rest of us would be pleased.
