Android 10 Deleted All My Photos 0 Recommended Answers 41 Replies 324 Upvotes

I updated to Android 10 today.  Large chunks of photos are missing, downloaded photos are missing, downloaded files are missing.  There is one photo in my camera, and that is one that I took yesterday afternoon.  Everything taken from this last Sunday, 9/1/19 all the way to May is gone.  Then from may to December of last year is gone as well.
If I try to attach a photo in the messages app then all of them are still available.  Why are they available through my Messages app, but not in the actual Google Photos app?  Obviously they are still on my phone....somehow and somewhere.

I had the same problem but I seem to have fixed it. Long press on the Google Photos app, then tap info, then the 3 dots in the top right, uninstall app updates, then check to see if your photos are showing in the app, if they are, re-install the updates for the app. This worked for me.

Yep same thing happened to me (I have Pixel 2 XL). I tried what nahimgood said and only 1 photo and 3 video's have returned after I uninstalled the update. Just got back from a vacation with over 200 photos and all of them are missing. Would like to know where the hell are all my photo's I took. I do not and have not been using the sync feature for a long time now. When I go to text message someone, they are showing up in the 'Gallery' though like Steven said. Something is borked with this update.

Same here.  Looking in my files folder, everything is there, but just not showing in the photos/camera app.  Glad nothing was deleted, but very annoying that the majority of pics were moved.  No idea how to get things back how they were.

Update:. Not sure what happened or what I did, but now it seems everything is back to normal.  In my files folder, I selected one of the images, hit the three dots in the corner and sent the file to the photos app.  I then went to the photos app, selected the photo I sent there and downloaded to my device.  Shortly after everything appeared again.  Maybe it just takes a while for everything to adjust in the new Android build?!?  Just glad it's back to normal now.

same issue on pixel 3 xl.
I travel overseas a lot where google services are blocked, so backup and sync has never been on.
I see the photos in the file browser, but they are missing from the camera app, especially those from 2019
