This is not about WEB access it is about computer or PC access Windows 10 which seems to no longer to be an option for photos??

In the past I simply was able to see all my google photos in Windows 10 file manager through the synced folder google drive link.
This feature is now turned off as Photos is separated from Drive.

Right now if I want to use a photo from Google photos O have to find it in web, download to PC, then access via file explorer.
Is there no way to add google photos to the "pictures" folder of a PC as thumbnails to select and use by any program that needs access to an image??
For some strange reason I can find no information about this online. I must not be the only one using this feature?

If you incidentily need some picture, it really is the most fast way to scroll through library at https://photos.google.com and then download the single picture found via its 3 dots.
So for you it makes no sense to have all synced to pc, because then you also have to scroll through much smaller thumbnails to find the right picture for your job.
It would be a different situation if you want to go on with building a much more nice collection over years which can beackupped on a much better way then on Google Photos itself.

Hello Tony,
For new photos taken on mobile I have the OneDrive app installed with settings to upload new photos to the OneDrive cloud where they go into the camera roll. I have the camera roll synced to my HD where I manually move them to add to my photo archive.
Moving them deletes from OneDrive where they are stored in the recycle folder for 30 days.
Deleting from OneDrive does not delete from the mobile device.
Deleting from the mobile device does not delete from OneDrive
The photos taken on mobile are backed up to Google Photos as normal and I am using OneDrive because it is part of Windows, but Dropbox also works.  Check out this video:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vI9arZejrAY

Peter thanks for the OneDrive tip, my laptop PC has only a SSD so I don't want to keep the photo on drive.

In the older days of Picasa I could easily see all my photo on the laptop as thumbnail, including photo in the Google cloud. I could use those photo in Windows applications easily, email, documents, PowerPoint, any application that could attach a picture from the hard drive.

This laptop friendly feature has been eroded firstly by the death of Picasa then by the split of photo and drive until there is no functionality left  at all,

I am surprised other Windows users are not making more noise. Unless I am missing something in my set-up.

Try downloading and installing the Google Backup and Sync desktop app.

@Rinus, are you referring to what you wrote before?  Because that is not my issue.  Before Google decided to separate Google Drive from Google Photos, I could view my photos from Google Photos in File Explorer on my computer.  I did not have to do anything manually except take the picture with my phone.  It would automatically transfer to the Google Drive and then I could view it from my File Explorer on my computer.  Now that Google Photos is separate from Google Drive, I have not figured out a way to add Google Photos to my File Explorer. (Just a link to access them, not download to computer)  So,  if you know of a way to do that, I would be grateful if you could share that information.
