How can I sync my Google Photos to my desktop PC?

Google Photos folder is not visible for sync in Google Drive desktop app (PC).

The photos taken on my Android device is automatically uploaded to Google Photos. This works all fine.

Now I want these photos to be synced to my desktop PC to enable me to work with the photos. (I use Lightroom in this case).

I searched for options and has been instructed to enable the "Google Drive" setting in Google Photos, which I did. This should enable me to see the photos in Google Drive, so I assumed the desktop app for Google Drive now would sync the photos to my desktop PC -- but no.

I searched and found hints about selective folders in the sync options -- but there is no folder for Google Photos there.

Still searching but came up with nothing -- so, I ask here.

How can I sync my Google Photos to my desktop PC?

Hi Jorgen,

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.

To sync all your photos onto a PC you need to log on to photos.google.com on your PC using the same Google Account to login. There is no separate app for the desktop. On your desktop, you need to login through a browser (photos.google.com). The app is only available for a phone device.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Best,
Amanda

Hi Amanda and thanks for your reply,

I wouldn't call a web view of my photos to be synced to my PC -- as the files are not stored on the PC, right?

I need the photos to be locally stored on my PC (as well) so that I can use them in other programs, such as Lightroom (as I mentioned).

How can I accomplish this?

BR,
Jörgen

There is no direct Google Photos program to sync images to and from your PC. There is the Desktop Uploader (downloadable via the Apps section of the photos.google.com menu) which will upload images from your PC.

If you want to download images from other devices to your PC automatically, I would recommend turning on the option to see your Google Photos in Google Drive, and then using the Google Drive desktop app to sync the Google Photos folder to your PC.
Just be sure not to place photos you want uploaded in this folder unless you want them to count towards your Google Drive storage.

Hi:
As Tenley says, using Google Drive to download is a very good way to get all your photos to the PC automatically but it does take a lot of room on your hard drive and a lot of internet bandwidth.

If you want only some of the photos downloaded, here are some other Download options:

Hi Tenely and thanks. As far as I can see I have Google Photos turned on in Google Drive, but the Photos folder is not visible in Google Drive desktop app and thus they are not synced.
Any idea of how I can make my desktop app able to "see" the Photos folder?
( I don't mind the extra Drive storage)
