Make creations with Google Photos

Important: You can now find creation tools in one dedicated space for quicker and easier access. Some creations are automatically created for you.

With creations, you can make visual stories and moving images with your photos and videos. You can create:

  • Animations: A quick-moving GIF of selected photos and videos.
  • Cinematic photos: A 3D effect added to photos.
  • Collage: A template with customizable layout to arrange your photos and videos.
  • Highlight videos: A video with music using photos and videos.
  • Photo to video: Animate your photo and turn static moments into dynamic six-second video clips.
  • Remix: Reimagine your favorite photos in just a few taps with easy to use AI-powered templates.
  • Me Meme: Create personalized memes by combining your photos with your choice of template.

Explore creation tools

The Create tab helps make it fun and effortless to turn your photos and videos into unique, shareable content using tools with fresh inspiration all in one place.

To access the Create tab:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Create Edit.
  3. Browse the available tools.
  4. To start creating, select a tool.

Make animations

Important: You can’t speed up or slow down your animation. 

You can create a slideshow of your selected photos and videos.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Create Edit and then Animation.
  3. Choose the photos you want to add to your animation.
  4. At the top, tap Create.

Create a cinematic photo

You can add a 3D effect to your photos.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. Tap the photo you want.
  3. Swipe up.
  4. Tap Create Edit and then Cinematic photo.
  5. At the bottom, tap Save.

You can also create Cinematic photos another way:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Create Edit and then Cinematic photo.
  3. Select a photo.
  4. At the bottom, tap Save.

Make & edit collages

Important: Some collage editing features aren't available on the web.

Start your collage

There are multiple ways to start a collage.

  • Start with photos:
    • You can pre-select up to 6 photos directly from your library.
    • To access the Collage editor, at the bottom, tap Create Add and then Collage .
  • Start with a design (template-first): You can start with a template design, then add your photos.
    • To start with a template, at the bottom, tap Create Edit and then Collage .
      1. On the Create tab, scroll to the "Collages" section.
      2. Select a template.
  • Start from the Overflow menu:
    1. Tap a photo from your Photos library.
    2. At the top, tap the Overflow menu More and then Create Edit and then Collage .
  • Start through the navigation bar:
    • At the top right, tap Create Add and then Collage .

Customize your collage

You can customize your collage:

  • Select a design template and layout: You can explore a wide range of templates based on themes and number of photos.
  • Add or remove photos: If you want to change the number of photos in your collage, at the bottom, you can tap Add Add or Remove Remove.
  • Edit your photos: You can edit, replace, resize, or change the order of the photos in your collage.

Review, save & share your collage

After you choose a collage layout and make any edits to your photos, you can:

  • Review your collage:
    • Adjust photo placement: To zoom or drag a photo within the frame, tap the photo.
    • Fill empty slots: To add photos to empty frames, in the frame, tap Add Add.
    • Change the layout:
      1. To preview your photos in different grids, at the bottom, swipe through the templates.
      2. Tap one to apply the layout to your photos.
  • Save your collage: Tap Save.
  • Share your collage: Tap Share Share.

Tip: To send feedback, tap More More and then Send feedback.

Create a highlight video

Important:

  • This feature is currently unavailable on tablets.
  • In Google Photos, you now have more control over the types of videos you can create with highlight videos.

With Google Photos, you can quickly create highlight videos with your memorable moments. Select the people, places, themes, or dates you want to include, and a highlight video is automatically created for you.

You have 2 ways to create a highlight video:

Start with a template
  1. On your iPhone, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Create Edit and then Highlight video.
  3. Browse through templates for different themes and narratives
    • Templates are pre-packaged videos that already come with music, text, and beat-matching.
  4. When you find the template you want to use for your video, tap Use template.
  5. Select your photos or videos. You can do so in 2 ways:
    • Manually select the best photos or videos from your gallery based on the story you want to tell.
    • To use the assisted content selection for template, tap Help me select . It’ll automatically select the content you want to include in your video.
      • With Search: In the Search box, type a few words about the people, places, themes, or dates to include in your highlight video. For example, "Birthday," "Museum," or "Japan."
      • With suggested people, places, and time frames: From the suggested items, select "Who," "Where," "When," and more.
  6. At the top right, tap Next.
  7. Review your video.
    • Based on the story you want to create, you can customize your video by changing the clips, music, or text.
  8. When you’re done, tap Save.
  9. To watch your highlight video, tap Play Play or wait to be notified when the highlight video is ready.

Tip: If you don’t see the people or time frame you would like in the suggestions, tap Add person person add or Date range date range.

Start with content
  1. On your iPhone, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Create Edit and then Highlight video.
  3. At the top, tap Select content.
    • To automatically select the content to make a video, use the assisted content selection.
      • With Search: In the Search box, type a few words about the people, places, themes, or dates to include in your highlight video. For example, "Birthday," "Museum," or "Japan."
      • With suggested people, places, and time frames: From the suggested items, select "Who," "Where," "When," and more.
    • To manually select the best photos or videos from your gallery based on the story you want to tell, tap or choose specific photos & videos .
  4. Tap Create video.
    • If you manually select the content, tap Next.
  5. Review and customize your video.
    • Based on the story you want to create, you can customize your video by changing the clips, music, or text.
  6. When you’re done, tap Save.
  7. To watch your highlight video, tap Play Play or wait to be notified when the highlight video is ready.

Tip: If you don’t see the people or time frame you would like in the suggestions, tap Add person person add or Date range date range.

Edit a highlight video

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. To access “Highlight video:”
    • Through the Create tab: At the bottom, tap Create Edit and then Highlight video.
    • Through the Photo grid:
      1. Select the multiple photos or videos you want to include in the highlight video.
      2. Tap Create Create and then Highlight video.
  3. Open the highlight video you want to edit.
  4. Tap Edit Edit.
    • To resize the video to a different aspect ratio: Tap Resize and then Done Done.
    • To adjust your video:
      1. Tap Adjust Edit icon (2025).
      2. Select the type of effect you want to apply to your video.
      3. To make the changes, move the dial.
      4. When you’re finished, tap Done Done.
      5. To undo an adjustment, deselect the option or tap Cancel Remove.
    • To add music: Tap Add Music .
      1. Alternatively, tap Add Add and then Add Music .
        • To mute your video: Tap Mute .
      2. To select a song from the Google Photos music library, select All or a Mood, and then select the song:
        • All: All songs
        • Bright: Happy, joyful, and energetic music
        • Chill: Calm, groovy, and slower tempo music
        • Romantic: Mellow and charming music
        • Inspirational: Motivating and uplifting music
        • Funky: Silly, goofy, and upbeat music
        • Dramatic: Cinematic, passionate, and emotional music
        • Sad: Melancholic, somber, and slow paced music
      3. To adjust the music, use the music editor. At the bottom of the video, tap the song.
        • To change the volume of "Video audio" and "Soundtrack:"
          • Tap Volume .
          • Touch and hold, then drag the slider.
          • Tap Done Done.
        • To change the song you want to use: Tap Change .
        • To remove the song from your video: Tap Remove Remove photo.
      4. When you’re done, tap Done.
    • To add more photos and videos to your highlight video: Tap Add and then Add photos & videos Add more photos.
    • To reorder clips: Touch and hold, then drag it to a different order.
    • To remove clips: Tap the clip you want to remove and then Remove Remove photo.
  5. When you're done, tap Save.

If you delete photos or videos from Google Photos:

  • If you delete a photo or video from your Photos view, it won't be deleted from your saved highlight videos.
  • If you want to delete the item from your highlight video as well, open the editor. When you open the highlight video editor, the deleted item automatically gets removed from your highlight video.

Use Generative AI to transform your photos

Important:

  • These features aren't available in all regions at this time. Functionality can vary by location. Some features may have additional eligibility requirements.
  • The photos you want to edit must be backed up. Learn how to back up photos and videos.
  • These features require network connection.
  • You can only generate a limited number of photos or videos per day. Purchasing a Google AI plan increases your number of generations.

You can transform your photos with Generative AI through Photo to video, Remix, and Me Meme. These features may give unexpected or inaccurate results. When you leave feedback, you can help improve Photo to video, Remix, and Me Meme for everyone.

Eligibility

  • You must be at least 13 years old.
    • The ability to input your own prompts in Photo to video is initially available only to users 18 years old or over.
    • Create with AI and Me Meme are only available to users 18 years old and over.
  • You need a personal Google Account. These features aren’t available to Google Workspace or school accounts.
Create with AI

Create with AI features ready-made AI templates to help you transform your photos into unique, shareable creations.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Create Edit.
  3. At the top, find “Create with AI.”
    • If this is your first time to use the feature, follow the on screen acknowledgement prompt.
  4. Select a template.
    • To start with a featured template:
      1. Below "Create with AI," find the featured template cards.
      2. To browse the featured templates, swipe left.
    • To browse all available templates: Tap View all.
      • To go through every template option, scroll through.
  5. Tap the desired template.
    • Personalized templates: These are the templates identified with a Badge .
    • Non-personalized templates: Specific creative style or visual effects are applied to your photo.
      • If you select this template, you need to add a reference photo before generation begins.
        • To upload a photo from your photo library, tap the slot.
        • To change the uploaded photo, tap Edit .
  6. Generate and share.
    • To generate your new creation: Tap Generate.
    • To save the image: Tap Save .
    • To share the image: Tap Share .
    • To get a different result in the same template: Tap Regenerate .
    • To share your experience and help us improve: Tap Send feedback.

Tip: Some templates may change or be removed over time.

Photo to video

Important: Videos generated through the Photo to video tool may now contain audio.

You can transform your photo into dynamic short video clips using effects or text prompts.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Create Edit and then Photo to video Photo to video.
  3. To try out Photo to video, tap Try Now.
  4. Select a photo.
    • If you selected a landscape photo: The photo will be automatically cropped to fit the portrait video format.
  5. Choose an effect or write a prompt.
    • Subtle movements : Add photorealistic motion to the subjects in your photo like waving or smiling.
    • I’m feeling lucky I'm feeling lucky: It can sometimes be a subtle movement or it may turn your photo into a video with more movement like dancing or add special effects like confetti or balloons.
    • Use text prompts:
      • Important: This feature is only available to users 18 years old or over.
        • Use the suggested prompt or type a text prompt to describe the movement, scene, or effect you want in your video.
        • To edit your current prompt, tap Refine to return to the prompt box.
  6. Wait a few moments while your video generates.
  7. You can find the finished video at the results page.
    • To save the video: Tap Save.
    • To share the video: Tap Share.
    • To share your experience and help us improve: Tap Send feedback.

Tip: The video you created saves to the day you created it and not on the original date the photo was taken.

Remix your photos

You can transform your photos into different styles like “Anime.”

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Create Edit and then Remix .
  3. To try out Remix, tap Try now.
  4. Select a style.
    • Tip: Some styles are limited to users 18 years and over.
  5. To choose a photo that you want to edit, tap Choose photo.
    • To change your selected photo, tap Change photo.
  6. Tap Generate.
  7. You can save and share your edited photo:
    • To save the photo, tap Save.
    • To share the photo, tap Share.

Tips:

  • If you want to get a different result in the same style, tap Regenerate.
  • This feature is still experimental, so generated images may not perfectly match the original photo.
  • You can try to upload a well-lit, focused, or front-facing portrait photo of one or few subjects and generate it again for potentially better results.
Create personalized memes with Me Meme
  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Create Edit.
  3. Tap Me Meme.
    • If this is your first time to use the feature, follow the on-screen instructions after the intro screen.
  4. Select your template.
    • Browse templates: You can scroll and select one of the preset templates that Google Photos provides.
    • Upload a reference: To use a specific style, upload a funny photo from your library to use as the template.
  5. Select a photo.
    • To change the selected photo, tap Edit . For the best results, choose a prominent selfie or a photo where your face is clearly visible.
  6. Tap Generate.
    • To save the video: Tap Save .
    • To share the video: Tap Share .
    • To get a different result in the same effect: Tap Regenerate Regenerate.
    • To share your experience and help us improve: Tap Send feedback.
    • To compare the uploaded photo to the generated meme: Tap Compare Compare.

Tips:

  • This feature is still experimental, so generated images may not perfectly match the original photo.
  • For potentially better results, try to upload a well-lit, focused, and front-facing portrait photo then generate it again.

Find your highlight videos, animations & collages

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Search.
  3. Tap the search bar.
  4. Enter "Highlight videos" or "Animations" or "Collages".
  5. Tap Highlight videos or Animations or Collages.
