Important: In Google Photos, you now have more control over the types of videos that you can create with Highlight videos. In the Google Photos app, Highlight videos replace movies.

Make Highlight videos

Important: This feature is currently unavailable on tablets.

With Google Photos, you can quickly create Highlight videos with your memorable moments. Select the people, places, themes or dates that you want to include and a Highlight video will be automatically created for you.

1. On your iPhone, open the Google Photos app .
2. At the bottom, tap Library Utilities.
3. Under the 'Create new' section, tap Highlight video.
4. Choose the subject of your Highlight video.
   • With search: in the search box, type a few words about the people, places, themes or dates to include in your Highlight video. For example, 'Birthday', 'Museum' or 'Japan'.
   • With suggested people, places and time frames: from the suggested items, select 'Who', 'Where', 'When' and more.
5. At the top, tap Next.
6. Tap Save.

Tip: If you don't see the people or time frame that you would like in the suggestions, tap Add person or Date range .

Make a Highlight video manually

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. At the bottom, tap Library Utilities.
3. Under the 'Create new' section, tap Highlight video.
4. To choose the photos and videos that you want in the Highlight video, tap or select photos.
5. Select your photos or videos.
6. At the top right, tap Create.
7. When you've finished, tap Save.
8. To watch your Highlight video, tap Play or wait to be notified when the Highlight video is ready.

Edit a Highlight video

1. On your Highlight video, tap Edit
   • Change music: tap Music .
   • Reorder clips: tap and hold a clip to drag it into a different position.
   • Remove clips: next to the clip that you want to remove, tap More Remove.
2. When you've finished, tap Save.

If you delete photos or videos from Google Photos:

• If you delete a photo or video that's in one of your Highlight videos, that photo or video will stay in the Highlight video unless you edit the Highlight video.
• If you edit a Highlight video that features a photo or video that was deleted, that item will automatically be removed from the Highlight video.

Make animations

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. At the bottom, tap Library Utilities.
3. Under 'Create new', choose Animation.
4. Choose the photos that you want to add to your animation.
5. At the top right, tap Create.

Create a Cinematic photo

Important: Your device must have iOS 15.0+.

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Photos .
2. Tap the photo that you want.
3. Swipe up.
4. Tap Create Cinematic photo.
5. At the bottom right, tap Save.

Tip: You can also create Cinematic photos another way:

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Photos .
2. Tap Library Utilities.
3. Under 'Create new', tap Cinematic photo.
4. Select a photo.
5. At the bottom right, tap Save.

Find your Highlight video animations

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Google Photos .
2. At the bottom, tap Search .
3. Under 'Creations', tap Highlight videos or Animations.
