Make creations

Important: You can now find creation tools in one dedicated space for quicker and easier access. Some creations are automatically created for you.

With creations, you can make visual stories and moving images with your photos and videos. You can create:

  • Animations: A quick-moving GIF of selected photos and videos.
  • Cinematic photos: A 3D effect added to photos.
  • Collage: A template with customizable layout to arrange your photos and videos.
  • Highlight videos: A video with music using photos and videos.
  • Photo to video: Animate your photo and turn static moments into dynamic six-second video clips.
  • Remix: Transform your photos into different styles like “Anime.”

Explore creation tools

The Create tab helps make it fun and effortless to turn your photos and videos into unique, shareable content using tools with fresh inspiration all in one place.

A dedicated space for creation tools like:

  • Animation
  • Cinematic photo
  • Collage
  • Highlight video
  • Photo to video
  • Remix

To access the Create tab:

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Create Edit.
  3. Browse the available tools.
  4. To start creating, select a tool.

Make animations

Important: You can’t speed up or slow down your animation. 

You can create a slideshow of your selected photos and videos.

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Create Edit and then Animation.
  3. Select the photos you want in your animation.
  4. At the top, tap Create.

Create a cinematic photo

You can add a 3D effect to your photos.

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. Tap the photo you want.
  3. Swipe up.
  4. Tap Create Editand then Cinematic photo.
  5. At the bottom, tap Save.

You can also create Cinematic photos another way:

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Create Edit and then Cinematic photo.
  3. Select a photo.
  4. At the bottom, tap Save.

Make & edit collages

Important: Some collage editing features aren't available on the web.

You can make and edit collages with your photos.

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Create Edit and then Collage.
  3. Select up to 6 photos.
  4. At the top right, tap Create.
  5. Select a collage design.
    • You can browse different collage styles if you want more style options.
    • You can replace, edit, rotate, resize, and change the order of the photos in your collage.
  6. To save your collage, tap Save.

Create a highlight video

Important:

  • If you have an older device, you may not be able to create highlight videos.
  • In Google Photos, you now have more control over the types of videos you can create with highlight videos.

You have 2 ways to create a highlight video:

Start with a template
  1. On your Android device, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Create Edit and then Highlight video.
  3. Browse through templates for different themes and narratives.
    • Templates are pre-packaged videos that already come with music, text, and beat-matching.
  4. When you find the template you want to use for your video, tap Use template.
  5. Select your photos or videos. You can do so in 2 ways:
    • Manually select the best photos or videos from your gallery based on the story you want to tell.
    • To use the assisted content selection for template, tap Help me select . It’ll automatically select the content you want to include in your video.
      • With Search: In the Search box, type a few words about the people, places, themes, or dates to include in your highlight video. For example, "Birthday," "Museum," or "Japan."
      • With suggested people, places, and time frames: From the suggested items, select "Who," "Where," "When," and more.
  6. At the top right, tap Next.
  7. Review your video.
    • Based on the story you want to create, you can customize your video by changing the clips, music, or text.
  8. When you’re done, tap Save.
  9. To watch your highlight video, tap Play Play or wait to be notified when the highlight video is ready.

Tip: If you don’t see the people or time frame you would like in the suggestions, tap Add person person add or Date range date range.

Start with content
  1. On your Android device, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Create Edit and then Highlight video.
  3. At the top, tap Select content.
    • To automatically select the content to make a video, use the assisted content selection.
      • With Search: In the Search box, type a few words about the people, places, themes, or dates to include in your highlight video. For example, "Birthday," "Museum," or "Japan."
      • With suggested people, places, and time frames: From the suggested items, select "Who," "Where," "When," and more.
    • To manually select the best photos or videos from your gallery based on the story you want to tell, tap or choose specific photos & videos .
  4. Tap Create video.
    • If you manually select the content, tap Next.
  5. Review your video.
    • Based on the story you want to create, you can customize your video by changing the clips, music, or text.
  6. When you’re done, tap Save.
  7. To watch your highlight video, tap Play Play or wait to be notified when the highlight video is ready.

Tip: If you don’t see the people or time frame you would like in the suggestions, tap Add person person add or Date range date range.

Edit a highlight video

  1. On your highlight video, tap Edit Edit
    • Change music: Tap Music .
    • Reorder clips: Tap and hold a clip to drag it to a different order.
    • Remove clips: Tap the clip you want to remove and then Remove Delete.
  2. When you're done, tap Save.

If you delete photos or videos from Google Photos:

  • If you delete a photo or video from your Photos view, it won't be deleted from your saved highlight videos.
  • If you want to delete the item from your highlight video as well, open the editor. When you open the highlight video editor, the deleted item automatically gets removed from your highlight video.

Use Generative AI to transform your photos

Important:

  • To use Photo to video and Remix, you must:
    • Be in the United States.
    • Set your Google Account language to English (US).
  • Your device must have Android version 9 or up.
  • The photos you want to edit must be backed up. Learn how to back up photos and videos.
  • These features require network connection.
  • You can only generate a limited number of photos or videos per day. Purchasing a Google AI plan increases your number of generations.

You can transform your photos with Generative AI through Photo to video and Remix. These features are still experimental, so it may give unexpected or inaccurate results. When you leave feedback, you can help improve Photo to video and Remix for everyone.

You agree that your use of Photo to video and Remix are subject to the Google Terms of Service and the Generative AI Prohibited Use Policy.

Eligibility

  • You must be at least 13 years old.
  • You need a personal Google Account. These features aren’t available to Google Workspace or school accounts.
Photo to video

You can animate your photo and turn static moments into dynamic short video clips when you choose one of the two options for movement effects.

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Create Edit and then Photo to video Photo to video.
  3. To try out Photo to video, tap Try Now.
  4. Select a photo.
    • If you selected a landscape photo: The photo will be automatically cropped to fit the portrait video format.
  5. Choose an effect:
    • Subtle movements : Add photorealistic motion to the subjects in your photo like waving or smiling.
    • I’m feeling lucky I'm feeling lucky: It can sometimes be a subtle movement or it may turn your photo into a video with more movement like dancing or add special effects like confetti or balloons.
  6. Wait a few moments while your video generates.
  7. You can find the finished video at the results page.
    • To save the video: Tap Save.
    • To share the video: Tap Share.
    • To get a different result in the same effect: Tap Regenerate.
    • To share your experience and help us improve: Tap Send feedback.

Tip: The video you created saves to the day you created it and not on the original date the photo was taken.

Remix your photos

You can transform your photos into different styles like “Anime.”

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Create Edit and then Remix .
  3. To try out Remix, tap Try now.
  4. Select a style.
    • 3D animation
    • Anime
    • Sketch
    • Comic book
  5. To choose a photo that you want to edit, tap Choose photo.
    • To change your selected photo, tap Change photo.
  6. Tap Generate.
  7. You can save and share your edited photo:
    • To save the photo, tap Save.
    • To share the photo, tap Share.

Tips:

  • If you want to get a different result in the same style, tap Regenerate.
  • This feature is still experimental, so generated images may not perfectly match the original photo.
  • You can try to upload a well-lit, focused, or front-facing portrait photo of one or few subjects and generate it again for potentially better results.

Find your highlight videos, animations & collages

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Photos appPhotos.
  2. At the bottom, tap Search.
  3. Tap the search bar.
  4. Enter "Highlight videos" or "Animations" or “Collages”.
  5. Tap Highlight videos or Animations or Collages.
