Edit photos

Add filters, crop photos, and more on your mobile device or computer.

Tip: If you have back up & sync turned on, your edits will sync to your Google Photos library.

Make edits

Android app
  1. Open the Google Photos app .
  2. Touch the photo you want to edit.
  3. Touch the pencil icon . Choose what to do:
    • Tune icon : Automatically adjust color and exposure, manually change lighting, manually adjust color, or add effects.
    • Photo icon : Add or adjust a filter.
    • Crop icon : Crop or rotate.

      Tip: While you're editing, you can touch and hold the photo to compare your edits to the original.
  4. At the bottom right, touch the checkmark .
  5. At the top right, touch SAVE.

Your edits will be shown on a new copy of the photo. Your original, unedited photo will also be in your Google Photos library.

iOS app
  1. Open the Google Photos app .
  2. Touch the photo you want to edit.

Computer
  1. Go to photos.google.com.
  2. Open the photo you want to edit.
  3. At the top right, click the pencil icon . Choose what to do:

    • Photo icon : Add or adjust a filter.
    • Crop icon : Crop or rotate.

  4. At the top right, click SAVE.

Your edits will be applied to the photo, but you can undo them at any time.

Undo edits

Android app

If you edit a photo using the Google Photos app for Android, your edited version becomes a new copy of the photo.

If you don't like the edits you made, you can delete the edited version. Your original photo will still be in your Google Photos library (unless you deleted it).

iOS app or computer
  1. Open the Google Photos app or go to photos.google.com.
  2. Touch or click the photo you want to remove edits from, then the pencil icon .
  3. Touch or click the options menu > Back to original.
  4. Touch or click SAVE.
