You can now get a Recap from the past year in your featured memories carousel. If you've got notifications turned on, you’ll get a notification from Google Photos when your Recap is ready.
As part of your main Recap memory, you’ll get unique insight about your year based on your photos. You’ll now have shareable souvenirs. These are short videos and collages at the end of your Recap, ready to be shared on social media or in chats.
You can save and share your Recap memory. These memories are pinned to your "Collections" tab throughout December for easy access. They move to your photo grid under December after the start of the new year.
Before you start
To receive your full Recap, you must:
- Have taken enough photos throughout the year
- Have Face Groups turned on and have selected which face is yours
- Have the latest version of the Google Photos app
- Have backup turned on for this year’s content
- For an enhanced experience in the US, enable Gemini features in Photos
Find your new Recap memory at the end of the year
- On your Android device, open the Google Photos app .
- Sign in to your Google Account.
- At the bottom, tap Photos.
- At the top of Photos view, find your featured memories carousel.
- At the front of the featured memories carousel, you can find the 2025 Recap.
- To open your Recap, tap the Memory tile.
- To exit a memory, at the top, tap Close

- To revisit your viewed Recap during the month of December, scroll to the back of your memories carousel or look for it pinned in your "Collections" tab.
.Find your Recap after the new year
While you can manually save your Recap to your photos grid, you can also find your Recap pinned to the grid, similar to “Best of Month” and “Trip memories today.”
Until the end of December, your viewed Recap memory will remain at the back of the memories carousel as “Viewed.” Afterwards, it will move to the pinned memories under December.
- On your Android device, open the Google Photos app .
- At the bottom, tap Photos.
- Scroll to the month of December. Your Recap will be pinned at the top.
You now have 2 ways to edit and personalize your Recap:
- Editing within Google Photos: For quick adjustments, you can use the editing options right inside the Google Photos app to modify the photos or faces included in your Recap.
- You can hide specific people or photos before regenerating the final video.
- Edit with CapCut: For more creative control, you can use CapCut, an independent app operated by ByteDance, to make your Recap even more personalized, using templates made for Google Photos’ Recap.
- Curate photos: Choose the photos from your Recap to edit in CapCut.
- You can also select or remove the photos you want to include before sending to the CapCut app.
- Custom soundtrack: You can choose from CapCut’s music library.
- Curate photos: Choose the photos from your Recap to edit in CapCut.
When you want to share your Recap, you can select from the menu of various options. These include short clips, collages, or the full Recap video.
