Find out if your photos have been edited with AI

When you save an image, you can find additional info that indicates whether a photo has been edited with AI. If you’ve used certain AI-powered features in Google Photos like Magic Editor and Magic Eraser, you can find this info.

This can include AI info from third party image editing programs that meet globally recognized metadata standards developed by the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC).

You may also find digital watermarks like SynthID embedded into images edited with generative AI which will surface on tools like Google Search or Lens. Learn more about SynthID.

Important:

  • Not all images have AI info. The AI info section is removed for photos that haven’t been edited with AI or that don’t follow IPTC standards.
  • Note that IPTC metadata can be modified.
