Manage an abandoned property adjustment

You may see a line item in your “Payment history” labelled, “Abandoned property adjustment.” This note means that Google has sent your name and account balance to your state government for safekeeping. US legislation requires Google to take this action, called “escheatment,” when your Payments Merchant Center account is deemed abandoned.

Understand escheatment

Companies in the US are obliged to give assets that they believe are abandoned to US state governments. The appropriate state government is the state where you've told us you reside. If you reside outside the US, then the law tells us to send your balance and information to the state of Delaware, our state of incorporation.

Take the next steps

If your balance has already been escheated to the state government, then you can apply to your state government’s Unclaimed Property Office to have the money returned to you. For further directions, please visit the unclaimed money site.

If your balance hasn't been escheated to the state government, please log into Payments Merchant Center and follow our steps to add a valid bank account.
