Send money using Messages on your iOS

If you use the Messages app on your iPhone, you can send money to any Messages contact or US phone number with Google Pay. Google Pay is free to use.

Note: This feature is only available in the US.

Set up Google Pay Send for Messages

Note: If you have the latest Google Pay Send app installed on your iOS device, you’ll already be able to send money over Messages.

Step 1: Make sure the Google Pay Send app is installed

  1. On your iPhone, open the Messages app.
  2. Open a message.
  3. At the bottom, tap the App Store icon that looks like the letter "A."
  4. In the window that appears, tap Visit Store.
  5. In top right corner, tap Search and search for "Google Pay Send."
  6. Choose Google Pay Send.
  7. Tap Get.
  8. Once Google Pay Send is installed, tap Open and then Sign in.
  9. Choose the Google Account you want to sign in with.

Step 2: Turn on Google Pay Send for Messages

  1. On your iPhone, open the Messages app.
  2. Open a message.
  3. At the bottom, tap the App Store icon that looks like the letter "A."
  4. At the bottom, scroll through the apps and tap the three dots. 
  5. At the top, tap Edit.
  6. Switch "Google Pay Send" on, then tap Done.

Send money

  1. In the Messages app, choose the Messages contact or US phone number you want to send money to.
  2. Tap the App Store icon.
  3. In the menu that appears, tap Google Pay Send.
  4. Tap Enter an amount.
  5. Enter the amount you want to send.
  6. To choose a payment method, tap Edit Edit. If you've never used Google Pay Send before, follow the instructions to add a new payment method.
  7. Tap Attach money.

Claim money sent to you in messages

  1. Open the message with money attached.
  2. Tap the Google Pay Send message to claim the money.
    • If you haven’t installed Google Pay Send on your iPhone or iPad, you’ll be taken to the App Store listing where you can download the app.
  3. Tap Transfer money.
    • If you’ve never used Google Pay Send before, tap Add debit card and follow the instructions.
  4. Choose the payment method you want to use to claim your money.
