Add a payment method

You can add debit cards or link bank accounts to Google Pay. Credit cards, prepaid cards, and PayPal accounts can't be used to send or receive money.

Add a debit card

  1. Open the Google Pay Send app or visit pay.google.com.
  2. Tap Menu Menu. If you're on the web, go to step 3.
  3. Tap or click Payment methods.
  4. At the bottom, tap or click Add payment method.
  5. Choose Add a debit card.
  6. Enter your card details.
    • On your mobile device: To capture your card info, tap Take Picture Edit photo.
  7. Tap or click Save.

Add a bank account

  1. Open the Google Pay Send app or visit pay.google.com.
  2. Tap Menu Menu. If you're on the web, go to step 3.
  3. Tap or click Payment methods.
  4. At the bottom, tap or click Add payment method.
  5. Choose Add a bank account.
  6. Enter the routing and account numbers for your bank account. You can find this information on a check or by contacting your bank.
  7. Tap or click Next.
  8. If your bank offers instant verification, you’ll be asked to sign in to your bank account. If your bank doesn’t offer instant verification or you choose test deposit:
    • Google will make a small deposit in your bank account, which you should see after 2-3 days.
    •  To verify your bank information, confirm the deposit amount in your Google Pay Send.

Already seeing payment methods

If you paid for something through Google in the past, your card was saved by the Google payments center. These payment methods can be used with other Google products like Google Pay. 

Note: You can only send or receive money using debit cards and bank accounts. Credit cards saved by the Google payments center can appear in your payment methods but can’t be used when sending or receiving money.

Problem using a card

Note: Credit cards added to your Google Account will show up but can't be used for sending or receiving money. Prepaid cards are not supported.
