Add cards to Google Pay
- On your mobile device, open Google Pay
.
- Tap on your Profile Picture
Bank Accounts and Cards
Add card.
- Enter the card number, expiry date, CVV, and the cardholder’s name and billing address.
- Tap Save.
- Accept issuer Terms & conditions
- We will contact your bank to verify your card
- Choose how you will verify
- You will be asked for additional authentication via OTP
- OTP will be auto read or you can enter manually
- Next to your new card’s payment method listing, tap Activate.
- Enter your one-time password.
Important: You should receive this password via text message to the phone number associated to your Google Pay account. If you don’t receive a one-time password, verify that your contact information is correct. If your contact information is up-to-date, contact your bank to troubleshoot. -
Enter your one-time password. You will see a confirmation. If you do not see a confirmation, double check your card information and try again.
After your card is verified, you’re ready to use it for transactions.
Note: Adding your card to Google Pay will register your card for Tokenized card payments for all the below use cases:
- Tap & Pay at NFC enabled terminals
- QR code based payments at merchants
- Mobile Recharges on Google Pay and Online payments on 3rd party merchants where Google Pay is supported
In case you don’t want to register your card for any of the use cases listed above you can always call your bank to opt-out/deregister a particular use case for you before adding the card.
You can also call your issuer to de-register your card on a per use case basis post card addition
Remove cards from Google Pay
- On your mobile device, open Google Pay

- Tap Settings
Payment methods.
- Tap the card you want to remove
Remove card.
Note: Removing your Card from Google Pay will automatically disable all forms of tokenized card payments for you.
You can also call your issuer to de-register your card on a per use case basis post card addition.
Change your default Tap & pay card
- On your mobile device, open Google Pay
.
- Tap Settings

- Tap Account services
Google Pay.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to change your default Tap & pay card.
As per RBI’s directive w.e.f. October 1st, 2020, any Indian debit or credit card that is newly issued or has never been used before for online e-commerce or contactless payments will be blocked for the same. In case of such failure, you can enable them via Mobile and Internet banking. Please contact your bank for further details.

You can currently add the following cards:

You can use a credit or debit card added in Google Pay for the following types of transactions:

Where will I find all the cards that I have added in Google Pay?
To check your cards added in Google Pay:
- Open the Google Pay app.
- At the top left, tap your Profile Picture.
- Tap Payment methods.
Can I use cards added on Google Pay in foreign countries?
Can I use cards added on Google Pay at ATM?
Currently Google Pay is not supported at ATMs.
I am getting the Call Bank option while adding my card instead of SMS OTP and email OTP?
How secure is my card on Google Pay ?
If I change phones, do I need to add the Cards all over again?
Yes if you change your phone then all your cards would have to be added again since Card tokens are device specific and you would need to re-tokenize your cards on your new device.
I want to recycle/give away my phone but my Card are still on the phone. What should I do?
- You should delete all your Cards one at a time from Google Pay App.
- You should also log out of Google pay app and uninstall the app.
Will my Google Pay Card information still be on my device if it is formatted/reset?
No, Formatting or resetting your device will remove all payment Cards registered to your device.
Can the card be used immediately after its registration?
Yes, it can be used immediately after successful registration.
When I attempt to register a Card on Google Pay, a message tells me that it cannot accept my Card and to contact my bank. What should I do?
Please ensure that you are using a valid Axis Visa debit or credit card and SBI Visa credit card only. If it still fails then it may be any of the following reasons:
- Your card may not be eligible to participate in Google Pay. Please check above for the participating card program.
- Card information entered for registration is not correct.
- Technical issues (In such cases you should try after some time).
My Card is greyed out in Google Pay, what does this mean?
Will my Card work on Google Pay if my physical Card is closed or blocked?
Where Can I see the Google Pay card purchases made with my phone?
For online and Bharat QR transactions :
- You can view your transaction history in the All transactions section on Google Pay.
- You can also view the transactions in your conversation section with the individual merchants.
Your Tap & Pay transactions will not be visible in the Google Pay app and you can view them in the cards section on your issuer net banking portal.
- Unlock your phone : Turn on your phone screen and unlock your phone. You do not need to open the Google Pay app.
- Enable NFC on your phone : Go to your device settings and enable NFC on your device if not already enabled
- Tap on terminal : Now all you need to do is Tap your phone onto the terminal in the same way as you would tap your physical card.
- Default Card : Incase you have multiple cards added to your account your first added card will be used by default for Tap and Pay. Incase you wish to change your default card you can do so through Google settings on your mobile device.(Not Google Pay settings)
- Pay at any store : You can pay at any store that has a tap & pay enabled terminal. You should look out for terminals with the below contactless symbol OR ask at the store
How will the rewards be credited If I have added only a credit card in Google Pay?
You need to have a primary bank account added in Google Pay to receive funds/rewards which you have earned by making a transaction by using credit cards.
How do I change the default card for tap and pay method?

How do I opt-out for tap and pay, QR or in-app payment methods?
You can call your issuer to opt-out/de-register your card for any of these individual use cases.
Please note that removing your Card from Google Pay will also automatically disable all the above tokenized card payments for you.
How can I set transaction limits for my Card transactions?
You can call your respective bank to set and modify per transaction and daily transaction limits for their card transactions.
How will the rewards be credited If I have added only a Credit/Debit card in Google Pay?
You need to have a UPI linked primary bank account added in Google Pay to receive funds/rewards which you have earned by making a transaction through cards.
What to do incase I lose my device?
- Locking a device with Android Device Manager here will deactivate all your card tokens.
- You can also choose to Wipe out the device in which case we will remove the tokens completely from the device instead of de-activating them.
- You also have an option to call your issuer bank to disable the card tokens. You would however have to call your issuer bank to re-enable them if you want to use tokenized card again.

How do I get my cards dispute resolved (Bharat QR, Myntra , Mobile Recharge, and Tap & Pay)?
Bharat QR
Please contact your bank:
- If transaction has failed but card has been charged.
- If transaction has succeeded but fulfilment of order on merchant side has failed and merchant claims that he has not received the funds
You can use the approval code on the transaction detail screen to provide as reference to your bank. To get in touch with the issuer bank, tap on the transaction in Google Pay and you will be able to see the contact details for the issuer bank.

Online Payments on Myntra
Please contact your bank:
- If transaction has failed but card has been charged
- If transaction has succeeded but fulfilment of order on merchant side has failed and merchant claims that he has not received the funds
To get in touch with the issuer bank kindly tap on the transaction in Google Pay and you will be able to see the contact details for the issuer bank.

You can contact the merchant by using the contact option in the overflow menu on the conversation screen.
Mobile Recharge
- Open Google Pay App
.
- In the Business section, tap on the specific Biller.
- Tap on the specific Transaction in question
- Tap Raise Dispute then select the reason
- Tap Raise Dispute
Your issue will be resolved within 7 business days from initiating a dispute.
