Overdraft accounts in Google Pay

An overdraft account allows users to withdraw more than they have in their bank account.

How overdraft accounts work

Add an overdraft account

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. At the top, tap your picture and then Bank accounts.
  3. Tap Add new account.
  4. Follow the steps on the screen to finish setting up your account.

View an overdraft account

  1.  Open the Google Pay app .
  2. At the top, tap your picture and then Bank accounts.
  3. View the list of bank accounts. Your overdraft account will show "Overdraft account" under the bank name.

Check account balance

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
  2. At the top, tap your picture and then Bank accounts.
  3. Tap the account you want to check and then View balance.
  4. Enter your UPI PIN.

Pay with an overdraft

  1.  Open the Google Pay app .
  2. From the bottom of the screen, slide up.
  3. Tap New.
  4. Enter the name of a biller.
  5. From the search results, tap the name of the biller and then Make payment.
  6. Select your overdraft account.
  7. You'll see one of the following:
    • Pay a custom amount: Tap Make payment and enter the amount that you'd like to pay.
    • Pay an available bill: On the bill, tap Pay bill.
  8. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  9. When done, view the bill to confirm that the payment was successful.

Note: It usually takes up to 3 business days for payments to show in your account.

Pay the balance on an overdraft account (Pay to self)

  1.  Open the Google Pay app .
  2. On the "Start a payment" page, tap Self transfer.
  3. Select two bank accounts:
    • One for "transfer money from" and the overdraft account you want to "transfer money to."
  4. Enter the transfer amount and notes, if required.
  5. Tap Proceed to pay.
