An overdraft account allows users to withdraw more than they have in their bank account.
How overdraft accounts work
Add an overdraft account
- Open the Google Pay app .
- At the top, tap your picture Bank accounts.
- Tap Add new account.
- Follow the steps on the screen to finish setting up your account.
View an overdraft account
- Open the Google Pay app .
- At the top, tap your picture Bank accounts.
- View the list of bank accounts. Your overdraft account will show "Overdraft account" under the bank name.
Check account balance
- Open the Google Pay app .
- At the top, tap your picture Bank accounts.
- Tap the account you want to check View balance.
- Enter your UPI PIN.
Pay with an overdraft
- Open the Google Pay app .
- From the bottom of the screen, slide up.
- Tap New.
- Enter the name of a biller.
- From the search results, tap the name of the biller Make payment.
- Select your overdraft account.
- You'll see one of the following:
- Pay a custom amount: Tap Make payment and enter the amount that you'd like to pay.
- Pay an available bill: On the bill, tap Pay bill.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- When done, view the bill to confirm that the payment was successful.
Note: It usually takes up to 3 business days for payments to show in your account.
Pay the balance on an overdraft account (Pay to self)
- Open the Google Pay app .
- On the "Start a payment" page, tap Self transfer.
- Select two bank accounts:
- One for "transfer money from" and the overdraft account you want to "transfer money to."
- Enter the transfer amount and notes, if required.
- Tap Proceed to pay.
