Fix problems verifying your phone number
Note: If you’re using a dual-SIM phone, make sure that you set your Google Pay phone number as the primary SIM.
If you’re having trouble getting the SMS verification for Google Pay, try the following:
1. Make sure that you’re using an Indian phone number
To use Google Pay, you need to use an Indian phone number. Google Pay doesn’t work with international phone numbers.
2. Check for mistakes in your phone number
Make sure that your phone number was entered correctly, with no extra numbers, and the India country code 91.
3. Make sure that your phone number is active and has balance
Make sure that your phone number is active. If you’re using a prepaid number, check to make sure that you have balance in your prepaid account.
4. Make sure that you’re online
To get your SMS, you’ll need a strong signal. Check that:
- Your mobile data is turned on
- Aeroplane mode is turned off
- You have at least 1 bar of signal
5. Test your connection
- If you have a data connection on your device, try visiting a website.
- If you don’t, try sending yourself an SMS, or have someone that you know to send you one.
- Make sure that you don't have a VPN or other app installed that may be limiting your data connection.
6. Ask for a new verification code
If you still don’t get the SMS, on the verification screen, tap Resend OTP.
7. Restart Google Pay or your device
- Try quitting the app and opening it again.
- If that doesn’t work, try uninstalling the app and downloading it again.
- You can also try restarting your phone and opening Google Pay again.
8. Email, chat or call us
If these steps don’t work, contact Google Pay support.
