After you add your first bank account on Google Pay, you'll receive a prompt to set up the lock feature the next time you open the app.
Choose your lock type
You can opt in at any time by choosing between your existing phone security or a dedicated code:
- Use your screen lock: Reuse your phone's default lock, such as your fingerprint, pattern or passcode/PIN.
- Use Google PIN: Create a separate four-digit numerical Google PIN.
Tip: Your Google PIN is different from your UPI PIN or the PIN that you use to unlock your phone. To unlock Google Pay, you can use the Google PIN feature.
How the lock works
- For the screen lock feature, if the device is unlocked within 30 seconds, the Google Pay app lock will be skipped.
- For push payments to online merchants such as Zomato, Flipkart, Zerodha and others, the Google Pay app lock is skipped for both screen lock and Google PIN.
- Devices with Android 5.0 or up can select either the Google PIN or the phone's default lock.
Secure your account
Important: If Google PIN is active, you’ll need to be connected to the internet to open the app.
- Open the Google Pay app

- At the top, tap your photo.
- Tap Settings and then Privacy and security.
- Slide the button to enable app lock.
- To set a PIN, select screen lock or four-digit Google PIN to set as PIN.

Change your Google PIN
- Open the Google Pay app
- At the top, tap your photo.
- Tap Settings
Privacy and security.
- Tap Manage your app lock.
- Select Use your four-digit Google PIN.
- Tap Did you forget PIN?.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
