Important: App lock functionality in GPay is an optional feature.
- After you've configured your first bank account on GPay, when you re-open the app, you'll receive a prompt to set up the lock feature.
- If you choose to skip it, you can still follow the steps below to opt-in at a later point in time.
- For push payments to online merchants such as Swiggy, Zomato, Amazon, Flipkart, Zerodha, and others, GPay app lock is skipped.
To make Google Pay more secure, you will require a Google PIN to use the app. You can also link your Touch ID to your Google PIN.
- For the screen lock feature, if the device is unlocked within 30 seconds, GPay app lock will be skipped.
Important: For push payments to online merchants such as Zomato, Flipkart, Zerodha, and others, GPay app lock is skipped for both screen lock and Google PIN.
Tip: Your Google PIN is different from your UPI PIN or the PIN you use to unlock your mobile device.
Choose how to secure your account
Tip: If Google PIN is active, you’ll need to be connected to the internet to open the app.
- Open Google Pay .
- At the top, tap your photo Settings Privacy & Security Security.
- Select Use screen lock to use your existing pattern, PIN, fingerprint, or password that you use to lock your phone.
Tip: Your fingerprint information isn't shared with the app. Learn more about Unlock with your fingerprint. - Select Use Google PIN to use Google PIN.

Change your Google PIN
- Open Google Pay .
- At the top, tap your photo Settings Privacy & Security Security.
- Select Use Google PIN.
- Tap Forgot PIN.
- Follow the instructions.
