UPI Lite is an on-device wallet with the following key features:
- Make payments of up to ₹500 INR without the use of a UPI PIN on the Google Pay app.
- No fees.
- No KYC required.
- Maximum balance is ₹2,000 INR. You can spend up to a total of ₹4,000 INR within 24 hours.
- No charges for money transfer and account closing.
To get started, set up your UPI Lite balance:
- Choose an eligible bank account that supports UPI Lite to add money from. Find the list of banks that support UPI Lite below.
- Add up to ₹2,000 INR to your UPI Lite balance.
When you set up your UPI Lite balance, UPI Lite becomes the default payment method option for payments less than ₹500 INR.
Set up UPI Lite- Open the Google Pay app .
- At the top right, tap your Profile picture.

Tap Pay PIN-free UPI Lite.
- Enter the amount you want to add.
- You can load up to ₹2,000 INR.
- Enter your UPI PIN.
Tip: You can only create one UPI Lite account on Google Pay.
You can make payments of up to ₹500 INR each with UPI Lite.
To pay:
- Open the Google Pay app .
- Select the contact or business you want to pay.
- Enter the amount.
- At the bottom right, tap the Blue arrow.
- Under “Choose account to pay with,” select UPI Lite.
You can add up to ₹2,000 INR to your UPI Lite balance.
- Open the Google Pay app .
- At the top right, tap your Profile picture > UPI Lite.
- Add an amount of up to ₹2,000 INR.
Tip: UPI Lite can have a maximum balance of ₹2,000 INR.
- To load the amount, enter your UPI PIN.
The UPI lite balance will be visible on the home screen.
You can also check your UPI Lite balance by:
- Open the Google Pay app .
- At the top right, tap your Profile picture.
- Under “Payment methods,” select your UPI Lite account.
- You can find your UPI Lite balance above the “Add money” section.
You can find your UPI Lite transactions on Google Pay in the transaction history section.
- Open the Google Pay app .
- At the bottom of the screen, tap Show transaction history.
- Tap the search bar.
- Select UPI Lite from the suggestions.
- Open the Google Pay app .
- At the top right, tap your Profile picture > UPI Lite.
- At the top right, tap the three dots .
- Tap Delete UPI Lite.
- To confirm, tap Delete.
Tip: When you deregister your account, the money is credited back to your bank account.
UPI Lite Autopay allows you to automatically top-up your UPI Lite balance when it falls below a certain amount.
- Open the Google Pay app .
- Tap the UPI Lite chip.
- Enter the amount you want to add and tap Add.
- UPI Lite can have a maximum balance of ₹2,000 INR.
- To change your Autopay settings, tap Edit.
- UPI Lite can have a maximum balance of ₹2,000 INR.
- Tap Continue with Autopay.
- Enter your UPI PIN.
Your Autopay info will be available after it’s successfully set up.
FAQs
What's UPI Lite?UPI Lite is an online wallet where you can pay without the use of a UPI PIN on the Google Pay app. It doesn’t require an e-KYC.
You can pay up to ₹500 INR per transaction and have multiple transactions up to a total of ₹4,000 INR in a day.
With UPI Lite, you can make payments of up to ₹500 INR without the use of a UPI PIN on the Google Pay app. Money is deducted from your UPI Lite balance.
- Make payments without a UPI PIN: You don’t need a UPI PIN when you make a payment for less than ₹500 INR.
- Cleaner bank statements: You can find all your UPI Lite transactions on Google Pay instead of your bank statements. Only your initial load, top up and unload transactions show up on your bank statement.
- No KYC: You don’t need to have an additional KYC to set up a UPI Lite account.
- Pay anywhere: Scan and pay at shops or pay people on Google Pay with UPI Lite for amounts up to ₹500 INR.
Tip: You can’t use UPI Lite for some payments like:- Payment collect requests
- Autopay
- UPI International payments
There are 10 banks that currently support UPI Lite. New banks will continue to be added to the list. Check your application for the latest list of banks that support the Lite feature.
- You can pay up to ₹500 INR per transaction and have multiple transactions up to a total of ₹4,000 INR within 24 hours.
- Your balance can hold up to ₹2,000 INR.
If you use the same phone number that you used to activate your UPI Lite account on your new device, your balance remains intact.
To claim your balance, use the same mobile number registered to UPI Lite and deregister your UPI Lite account. Deregistration transfers your balance back to the bank account that you used to add the money to the UPI Lite account. If you can't access the same mobile number, contact your bank's customer support team.

You can only create one UPI Lite account on Google Pay. You can have more than one UPI Lite account across different platforms.
If money is debited from your UPI Lite account but the transfer is denied due to network issues, the amount gets credited to your bank account.
You can add money through the bank account you linked on Google Pay.
