Learn about error code: U16

Important: If you get a U16 error code, wait for 24 hours before you retry the transaction.

Common causes for a U16 error code include:

  • You’ve debited more than the UPI limit of Rs. 1 Lakh (or Rs. 2 lakhs in some cases) in the last 24 hours. Retry after 24 hours or with a different amount. Check your bank limit for more details.
  • You can make a maximum of 150 person-to-person UPI payments in a month. You can continue to pay merchants.
  • You’ve exceeded the UPI limit of Rs. 5000 for your first transaction within 24 hours of adding a new bank account or UPI ID.
  • Your receiver's account is not allowed to receive money with UPI.
  • Your receiver reaches the limit for the number of payments in 24 hours.
