Create or find your UPI ID

UPI is a banking system for money transfers on payment apps. To add a bank account to Google Pay, your bank must work with UPI.

Your UPI ID is an address that identifies you on UPI (typically yourname@bankname).

Create a new UPI ID on Google Pay
  1. Open Google Pay .
  2. At the top right, tap your photo.
  3. Under "Payment methods,"tap Bank account.
  4. Select the bank account for which you want to create a new UPI ID.
  5. Select Manage UPI IDs.
  6. If you find “1/3 UPI IDs added” or “2/3 UPI IDs added,” tap the Down arrow Down arrow.
  7. Next to the UPI ID you want to create, tap Add Add.

Tips:

  • You can create up to 4 UPI IDs on Google Pay for each bank account you add.
  • You can't use Virtual Payment Address (VPA) or UPI IDs created through other UPI apps or net-banking portals for Google Pay.
  • A new VPA or UPI ID is created for you when you sign up for Google Pay.
  • The VPA or UPI ID created through Google Pay is the default VPA or UPI ID on your Google Pay account.
  • You can keep the ID you want and delete other associated IDs.
Find your UPI ID on Google Pay
To find your UPI ID:
  1. Open Google Pay .
  2. At the top right, tap your photo.
  3. Tap Bank account.
  4. Tap the bank account whose UPI ID you want to view.
  5. Select Manage UPI IDs.
  6. Under your bank account details on the top of the page, you’ll find your UPI ID.
Change your UPI ID on Google Pay

To delete an existing UPI ID and create a new one:

  1. Open Google Pay .
  2. At the top right, tap your photo.
  3. Tap Bank account.
  4. Tap the bank account whose UPI ID you want to see.
  5. Select Manage UPI IDs.
  6. Under your bank account details on the top of the page, you’ll find your UPI ID.
  7. If you find “1/3 UPI IDs added” or “2/3 UPI IDs added,” tap the Down arrow Down arrow.
  8. Next to the UPI ID you want to delete, tap on the menu section and select “Delete.”
  9. Next to the UPI ID you want to create, tap Add Add.
Delete or remove your UPI ID on Google Pay
  1. Open Google Pay .
  2. At the top right, tap your profile photo.
  3. Under “Payment methods,” tap Bank account.
  4. Tap the bank account for which you want to delete your UPI ID.
  5. Select Manage UPI IDs.
  6. Click on the three dots next to the UPI ID you want to delete.
  7. Select Delete.

How does an additional UPI ID work?

Sometimes, transactions may take longer or fail because of issues with UPI payment servers. An additional UPI ID helps improve your payment success rate by routing your transaction through the server that will ensure a successful payment.

How many UPI IDs can I have?

You can add up to 4 UPI IDs for your bank account. You can also remove these at any time. You can have multiple UPI IDs for the same bank account.

Can I have multiple VPA or UPI IDs?

You can create up to 4 VPAs on Google Pay.

  1. Open Google Pay .
  2. At the top right, tap your photo.
  3. Under "Payment methods," tap Bank account.
  4. Select the bank account for which you want to create a new UPI ID.
  5. Select Manage UPI IDs.
Can I change the initial name of my UPI ID?

Your VPA or UPI ID is linked to your registered email address. For instance, if your Google Pay account is linked to the email address "abc@gmail.com," your VPA might be "abc@oksbi" (where "oksbi" represents the name of the Payment Service Provider or PSP associated with your Google Pay account).

Enable smart routing through social sharing

What's social sharing?

During a payment, if your beneficiary’s VPA or UPI ID is unavailable, you’ll be notified to “invite the payee” to set up an extra VPA or UPI ID. This invite is sent as a link on social sharing platforms like WhatsApp. Once the beneficiary sets up the extra VPA or UPI ID, you’ll be notified to retry the payment.

For payers: Steps for social sharing

If your beneficiary’s VPA or UPI ID is unavailable, Google Pay notifies you so that you can send them a message to set up an extra one.

  1. On your screen, tap Message.
  2. Select the social sharing platform you choose to send a message to your beneficiary. Once you click on it, a link is sent to the beneficiary.

Tip: When the beneficiary sets up an extra VPA or UPI ID, you’ll be notified.

For beneficiaries: Set up an extra VPA

If you receive a message to set up an extra VPA or UPI ID from someone who is trying to pay you:

  1. Tap on the notification that you receive.
  2. Tap the link provided in the message.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up a VPA or UPI ID.
