Fix errors or delays sending or receiving money

If you can’t send money or the transaction fails, choose the error you’re experiencing.

Unusual activity on your account

If you got a message that you can’t send or receive money because of unusual account activity, try the following.

Sending money
  1. Try to send the money again using a different payment method.
    • If you only have one payment method in Google Pay, you can add another one.
  2. Make sure your name, address, and account info is up to date with both your bank and Google.
  3. To make sure there are no issues with your account, check pay.google.com for a red banner or any alerts.
  4. If you’re still having issues, contact us.
Receiving money
  1. Try to claim the money to a different payment method.
    • If linked cards or bank accounts don’t work, try your Google Pay balance.
  2. Make sure your name, address, and account info is up to date with both your bank and Google.
  3. To make sure there are no issues with your account, check pay.google.com for a red banner or any alerts.
  4. If that doesn’t work, contact us.

Can’t send money

If you have other issues sending money, try the following.

  1. Make sure you’re trying to send money using a debit card or bank account. You can’t use credit cards to send money.
  2. Double-check for typos in the email address or phone number you’re trying to send to.
  3. Double-check that you aren’t trying to send money to a group alias. It has to be sent to an individual account.
  4. If you’re sending to a Google Account, reach out to the recipient to find out if:
    • Their address is in the same country as yours. You can only send money to people in your country.
    • They’ve deleted or disabled their account.
    • They’ve disabled Google Pay from using their account.
    • They're using an account through work, school, or another group where the administrator has disabled Google Pay. If so, they can ask their administrator to turn Google Pay Send on.
  5. If you’re sending to a phone number, make sure the number is valid.
    • Only numbers in the US, Puerto Rico, Guam, US Territory, and the UK are valid.
    • Money can’t be sent to landlines or phones that don’t accept SMS messages.
  6. If your payment method is associated with more than 5 Google payment profiles, you'll need to remove it from one of them. You can also try using a different payment method.
  7. If you've added more than 5 payment methods to your payments profile, you'll need to remove any that exceed this limit in order to send money.

Can't claim money

If you saw the message "Can't claim money with this payments profile," you won't be able to claim the money sent to you. You can only send money to people who are in the same country as you. Transfers to foreign bank accounts aren't supported.

If you're in the same country as the sender and moved recently from another country, you'll need to change your home country and have the sender try again.

"Pending" or delayed transfers

If there is a delay in transferring your money, the transaction may be under review. Some reviews might take up to 10 business days. See how long it takes for money to get transferred or contact us for more information.

Tip: Most delays come from sending money via ACH transfer from your bank account. Try using a debit card in the future for faster transfers.
