Send, claim & request money with a text

You can send and receive money to someone from an SMS text message free of charge.
Important: Always double-check that the phone number of the recipient is correct.
To use this feature, both the sender and recipient must be in the US. Your Google Account information (name, profile photo, and email) will be visible to the recipient as part of this transaction.

Send money

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Messages Android Messages.
  2. At the bottom, tap Start chat.
  3. Enter the name, phone number, or email address of the contact you want to send money to.
    • Important: If the recipient doesn’t have Google Pay, they’ll need a bank account or debit card to receive money.
  4. Tap Add Add.
  5. Scroll down and tap Send .
  6. Choose your payment method.
    • Important: Your first payment method must be a credit or debit card. After you've added a card, you can add other payment methods, like bank accounts.
  7. Enter the amount you want to send.
  8. Tap Attach money.
  9. Tap Send.

Request money

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Messages Android Messages.
  2. At the bottom, tap Start chat.
  3. Enter the name, phone number, or email address of the contact you want to request money from.
  4. Tap Add Add.
  5. Scroll down and tap Request Request.
  6. Enter the amount you want to request.
  7. Tap Attach request.
  8. Tap Send.

Claim money sent to you

  1. Open the message with money attached.
  2. Tap the message.
  3. Tap Claim money.
  4. Enter your debit card information.
  5. Tap Transfer money.
