Verify your card

When you use Buy with Google Pay on an app or website, you may need to verify your card. This lets Google know that you own the card and helps protect from fraud.

To verify your card, you need to add it to your phone with Google Pay.

Important: If you try to verify your card and get a message that it can't be set up to pay in stores, then it can't be verified. Try the transaction again with a different card.

If you have the Google Pay app

  1. Open the Google Pay app .
    • If you have more than one Google Account, make sure that the one you want to make a purchase with is the same account that's linked to Google Pay.
  2. In the top right-hand corner, tap the card image.
  3. From the left, swipe right until you find the blank card icon.
  4. Tap Add a payment method and then Debit or credit card.
  5. To capture your card info, use the camera or enter it manually.
  6. Review and accept your card issuer's terms.
  7. If you need to verify your payment method:
    1. Choose a verification option from the list.
    2. Enter the verification code.
  8. After you verify your card, you can complete the checkout process.

Tip: After you add a card, on your account from Google, you might find a small temporary authorization. This authorization checks that your card and account are valid. It isn’t charged to your balance and will go away soon. Within 48 hours, most temporary authorizations are removed from your account.
