Activity log

The activity log includes a running log of changes.

The activity log is a chronological change history of actions taken in Optimize. It’s helpful for troubleshooting and educational purposes.

In this article:

How it works

The activity log displays the changes made to an account or container, who made the changes, and when. It’s useful for troubleshooting an issue and provides an audit trail that can be helpful when collaborating with a team. The activity log is a table of events that’s available at both the account and container levels.

Account level

To access the activity log at the account level:

  1. Open your Optimize accounts page.
  2. Click More (More) in the header of any experiment.
  3. Click View activity.

The activity log contains the following fields:

  • User – The user who performed the action.
  • Action – The action that the user performed.
  • Item type – The item that the action was taken on.
  • Item name – The target of the action taken.
  • Date – A timestamp of when the action occurred.

Note: The User column displays “Unknown” when an action is performed by an automated system process.

The following actions are available at the account level:

  • Added – An account user or permission was added.
  • Changed – A change was made to a container, experiment or variable.
  • Created – An account or container was created or linked to an Analytics property.
  • Deleted – An account or container was deleted or unlinked from an Analytics property.

  • Container – A change to the current container.
  • Container permissions – A change to permissions for the container.

Container level

The Activity tab is also available at the top of every container page, next to the Experiences tab. Click it to view a chronological list of all actions taken in an Optimize container. Clicking on an Item name for an experiment event takes you to that experiment details page.

The activity log contains the following fields at the container level:

  • User – The user who performed the action.
  • Action – The action that the user performed.
  • Item type – The item that the action was taken on.
  • Item name – The target of the action taken.
  • Date – A timestamp of when the action occurred.

The following actions are available at the container level:

  • Changed – A change was made to a container, experiment or variable.
  • Created – A container, experiment or variable was created.
  • Deleted – A container, experiment or variable was deleted.
  • Enabled – Indicates that the item (usually a variable) is available for use on experiments.
  • Experiment started – An experiment was started.
  • Experiment ended – An experiment was ended.

The following item types are available at the container level:

  • Built-in variable – Commonly used values automatically provided by the container or Analytics.
  • Container – The current container.
  • Experiment – An experiment in the currently viewed container.
  • Variable – A user-defined value, usually the output of a custom script, that can be referenced by experiments in the container.
