Eligibility guidelines

Organizations that meet the following criteria are eligible to participate in the Google for Nonprofits program:

  1. Based in one of the following countries:
    • Australia
    • Brazil
    • Canada
    • Chile
    • Czech Republic
    • England
    • France
    • Hungary
    • Japan
    • Mexico
    • New Zealand
    • Poland
    • Slovakia
    • Wales
    • United States

  2. Registered as a charitable organization with the IRS, the Charity Commission for England & Wales, or your local TechSoup Global partner. In the United States, England, and Wales, organizations must be listed in the online database of the IRS or the Charity Commission for England & Wales for Google to verify their eligibility.     • Organizations must be recognized by the IRS as tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations formed for charitable, educational, religious, literary, scientific, or other tax-exempt purposes. For more information, see How to Apply for Charity Status.
    • Organizations that rely on the group 501(c)(3) exemption of a central (“umbrella”) organization can apply to Google for Nonprofits as a "related organization."
    • Organizations, such as churches, that are automatically considered tax-exempt must still obtain recognition of 501(c)(3) tax exemption from the IRS to qualify for the Google for Nonprofits program.
    Details for organizations in England and Wales
    • Organizations must be recognized by the Charity Commission for England & Wales as charitable organizations with demonstrated public benefit. For more information, see How to Apply for Charity Status.
    • Only one Google for Nonprofits membership per registration is allowed for charities registered with the Charity Commission for England & Wales.
    Details for Canadian organizations
    • Organizations must be currently registered with TechSoup Canada, TechSoup Global's regional arm.
    • Organizations must be registered as a federal charity, a federal nonprofit, or a provincial nonprofit.
    Details for Japanese organizations
    • Organizations must be currently registered with TechSoup Japan, TechSoup Global's regional arm.
    • Organizations must be registered as a Specified Nonprofit Corporation, a Public Interest Corporation, or a Social Welfare Corporation.

    • Organizations must be currently registered with TechSoup New Zealand, TechSoup Global's regional arm.
    • Organizations must be a charity listed on the Charities Services Register.
    Details for organizations in Australia
    • Organizations must be currently registered with Connecting Up, TechSoup Global's regional arm.
    • Organizations must be a non-government income tax exempt (ITE) nonprofit organization as defined by the Australian Charities and Nonprofits Commission (ACNC) and/or the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
    Details for French organizations
    • Organizations must be currently registered with AdB Solidatech, TechSoup Global's regional arm.
    • Organizations must be either an association according to the Act of the 1st of July 1901 or a foundation according to Article 8 of the Act of the 23rd of July 1987.

    • Organizations must be currently registered with TechSoup Česká republika, TechSoup Global's regional arm.
    • Organizations must be classified as one of the following:
      • Associations registered under Act No. 89/2012, §§ 214 – 302
      • Institutes registered under Act No. 89/2012, §§ 402 – 418
      • Foundations registered under Act No. 89/2012, §§ 306 – 393
      • Funds registered under Act No. 89/2012, §§ 394 - 401
      • Public Benefit Corporations (PBCs) registered under Act No. 248/1995, as amended.
      • Legal Entities established by churches and religious organizations registered under Act No. 3/2002
    Details for organizations in Hungary
    • Organizations must be currently registered with CivilTech, TechSoup Global's regional arm.
    • Organizations must be classified as one of the following:
      • Associations (egyesületek) or foundations (alapítványok) that have been granted Public Benefit Organization (Közhasznú szervezet) status by the competent Court; or
      • Nonprofit companies that have been granted Public Benefit Organization status by the competent Company Registry Court.
    Details for organizations in Poland
    • Organizations must be currently registered with Technologie.org.pl, TechSoup Global's regional arm.
    • Organizations must be classified as one of the following:
      • Public Benefit Organizations (Organizacja Pożytku Publicznego) registered in the National Court Register (Krajowy Rejestr Sądowy – KRS) maintained by the Ministry of Justice; or
      • Foundations and associations registered at the National Court Register (Krajowy Rejestr Sądowy – KRS) which do not have the public benefit organization status.

    • Organizations must be currently registered with TechSoup Slovakia, TechSoup Global's regional arm.
    • Organizations must be classified as one of the following:
      • Nonprofit organizations (neziskové organizácie)
      • Foundations (nadácie)
      • Non-investment funds (neinvestičné fondy)
      • Civil associations (občianske združenia) with the exception of:
        • Trade unions (odborové organizácie)
        • Tradesman’s associations (živnostenské spoločenstvá)
        • Employers’ organizations (zamestnávateľské organizácie)
      • The Slovak Red Cross (Slovenský Červený kríž)
      • Legal entities established by churches and religious organizations (právne subjekty vytvorené cirkvami a cirkevnými a náboženskými organizáciami).
    Details for organizations in Chile
    • Organizations must be currently registered with CDI Chile, TechSoup Global's regional arm.
    • Organizations must be one of the following:
      • Corporations (corporaciones) and public benefit foundations (fundaciones de beneficencia pública) registered with the Ministry of Justice and actively operating as a non-profit institutions—including accredited collaborators (colaboradores acreditados) of the National Youth Service (Servicio Nacional de Menores – SENAME)
      • Neighborhood councils (las juntas de vecinos) and Community Organizations (las organizaciones comunitarias) registered in their respective municipalities
      • Indigenous Communities (Comunidades Indígenas) registered with the National Indigenous Development Corporation (La Corporación Nacional de Desarrollo Indígena – CONADI)
    Details for organizations in Mexico
    • Organizations must be currently registered with OSC Digital Cemefi, TechSoup Global's regional arm.
    • Organizations must be one of the following:
      • Registered as an Authorized Donees (Donatarias Autorizadas) under the Mexican Income Tax Law (Ley del Impuesto sobre la Renta)
      • Registered under Promotion Law (Ley Federal de Fomento a las Actividades Realizadas por Organizaciones de la Sociedad Civil or Law for Promotion of Civil Society Organizations) in the Federal Registry of Civil Society Organizations (Registro Federal de las Organizaciones de la Sociedad Civil)
      • An organization operating on a non-profit basis for public benefit, which may include the following legal forms.
        • Civil Associations (asociaciones civiles – AC)
        • Private Assistance Institutions (instituciones de asistencia privada – IAP) or equivalent
        • Civil Societies (sociedades civiles – SC)
        • Trusts (fideicomisos)
    Details for organizations in Brazil
    • Organizations must be currently registered with TechSoup Brazil, TechSoup Global's regional arm.
    • Organizations must be one of the following:
      • Associations and private foundations with one of the following special designations:
        • Civil Society Organizations for the Public Interest (Organização da Sociedade Civil de Interesse Público – OSCIP)
        • Organizations with Federal Public Utility Status (Entidades de Utilidade Pública Federal – UPF)
        • Social Organizations (Organizações Sociais – OS)
        • Certified Beneficent Social Assistance Entities (Entidade Benficente de Assistência Social detentora do Certificado de Entidade Beneficente de Assistência Social – CEBAS)
      • Associations operating on a non-profit basis for public benefit
  3. Not one of the following:
    • Governmental entity or organization
    • Hospital or health care organization
    • School, childcare center, academic institution, or university (philanthropic arms of educational organizations are eligible). To learn more about Google's programs for educational institutions, visit Google for Education.

Google reserves the right to grant or deny an organization's application or participation at any time, for any reason, and to supplement or amend these eligibility guidelines at any time. Selections are made at Google's sole discretion and are not subject to external review.
