Proximity sensor problems in WhatsApp since Android 8.1

I have a Nexus 5x. From the last update to Android 8.1, I have experiencing a problem in WhatsApp voice notes:
When I ear voice notes without putting the phone in my ear, they sound trough the ear speaker without volume. When I put the phone near my ear, it turns off the screen, but it switches the sounds trough the loud speaker. The proximity sensor is working, but the audio seems to be working inverted.
To be sure this is not configuration problem, I did a factory reset of my phone and I installed the last version of WhatsApp available in Google Play (2.17.427) but the problem persists

I'm having the exact same issue after the update to Android 8.1.

Update: I contacted Google Support and told me to e-mail WhatsApp support about this issue...

Hi Pablo. When you factory reset, did you reinstall all your third party apps at once? If so and one or more is causing a problem, you will have reintroduced it. It would be best to reset 'as new' where problems exist and re-add your most regularly used third party apps just a couple at a time until you discover the culprit. At that time you should contact the app developer to request either an update for compatibility with 8.1.0 or a 'fix.'

Thanks for the response Penelope, I actually started the phone "as new" and installed apps one at a time, same thing. I'm going to send an e-mail to Whatsapp support about this issue, hope it get's fixed.

Hi Alberto. From your response, your problem appears to be different from the subject of this thread that refers specifically to WhatsApp. Therefore, it would be best to backup and reset your 'phone, starting 'as new' to give it a fresh start. If unsuccessful, it would be best to contact your 'phone's manufacturer for further advice.
