Hi Semyon,

Welcome to the Nexus Help Forum.

It's unfortunate that you are encountering issues with microphone on your Nexus 6P. Just to clarify, do you have anything on your phone such as a case, bumper, cover or anything else that can be obstructing the microphone? If so, try removing any obstructions and see if that helps. I'd suggest you try the below troubleshooting steps which might help you fix the issue:

1. If you have Bluetooth turned on, try turning it off to make sure that no other devices are interfering with your device.
2. While on a call make sure if the volume is set to maximum by pressing the Volume up button.
3. Try using Google Now to test if the microphone is functioning well by doing the following:
  • Touch home screen button.
  • Touch the microphone symbol in the top right corner to open up voice search.
  • Say "What time is it?" If the microphone is working, the device will state the time.
4. The problem may be with your apps temporary data. try wiping the cache partition by doing the following:
  • If your device is on, turn it off.
  • Press & hold the Volume down button. While holding Volume down, press & hold the Power button until the device turns on. You'll see the word "Start" with an arrow around it.
  • Press the Volume down button until you highlight "Recovery mode."
  • Press the Power button to start recovery mode. You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark.
  • Press & hold the Power button. While holding Power, press the Volume up button once. Then release Power.
  • Press the Volume down button until you highlight "Wipe cache partition," and then press the Power button to select it.
  • Press the Volume down button until you highlight “Yes,” and then press the Power button to select it.
  • Wait until the cache is wiped. You’ll see the words, “Cache wipe complete.”
  • Press the Power button to restart your device.
5. As a last resort try resetting your phone to factory settings. Performing a factory data reset will erase all data from the device. Make sure that your data is backed up to your Google Account before performing a factory data reset.

If the above steps didn't help and if you purchased your Nexus 6P on the Google Store, try contacting our Nexus Hardware Support for further assistance.

Hope that helps.

Best,
Brad

OMG that is the only response?  Canned "reset your device to factory settings?"  This phone has had a well documented issue related to the noice cancelling microphone.  Disabling the noise cancelling feature fixes it (when rooted).  Why doesn't Google disable this feature on stock devices if it is a hardware issue, instead of giving customers the runaround?

Ted knows the fix if rooted. You can also boot into safe mode and it works but yes that is a well known issue that I have experienced myself on a few of my own 6Ps. I use speaker or Bluetooth mostly to get around it.

Replying to Brad and quoting Ted as well, the problem is with the noise cancelling feature and you have to root the device in order to do so which is not a convenient or official solution for most of the people.

Let me confirm on you that 1,2,3, and 4 points that you have enclosed in your reply don't fix the problem, And doing a factory reset is not a suitable solution for most of us at all!

I didn't have this problem in the earlier Software versions when I bought the device around 5 months ago, I had a problem when talking while my device is on my shoulder, now I don't have the ability to talk through the headset at all due to this silly issue of the muffled voice! And everytime I have a call I either have to plug in the hands free or open up the speakers!

This is not something that we should expect from Google, espically that this is your device under your signature and it's not a minor issue.

Please advice what are the actions that we should take and when this is gonna be fixed as it's apparently a Software issue as most of the people who rooted their phones had reported that the problem is no longer available.

I literally put a piece of tape over the noise canceling mic on the rear of the phone, to manually "disable" the feature.

Hi Ron. If the seller sold the 'phone on just because of the mic issue then he's the loser now as you've fixed it. I hope all goes well from now on.
