Nexus 6p on 7.1.1. - Instant shutdown at around 25 % battery level

When my battery level reaches around 25 %, I see the orange of the battery saver for about 1 second and then my phone shuts down and cannot be switched on again until it's connected to a power source, when, miraculously, battery level is shown to be around 31 %.
This never happened on Android 6, so it is clearly a software issue.

Please fix this asap!!

If your battery is charging and working fine other than that, the first thing I would try is a cache wipe. With the power off hold power and volume down button a few seconds>scroll to recovery with volume buttons and select with power button>once you see the Android on its back hold power then press and release volume up. Now you can scroll to wipe cache partition with the volume keys and select it with the power button. Once it's done just select reboot.

Hi Tiuri,

Thanks for stopping by the Nexus Help Forum.

@Jason: I appreciate your valuable inputs!

@Tiuri: Jason's suggestion with regards to this issue should solve the problem. Also, I'd suggest you try starting your device in safe mode and not running any apps you've installed to test if one of them is causing the problem. If you don't experience the problem while in safe mode that's a good indication that an third-party app you've installed is the source of your issue. You may need to uninstall recently downloaded apps one by one if the issue doesn't exist in safe mode.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Damon

Thanks @Jason and @Damon. I've done the cache wipe and will now see how it goes. If it happens again, I will try the safe mode. Thanks again!

Tiuri, hopefully that will help. If not let us know and we can continue troubleshooting.
Damon, always glad to help. Fi is my home forum but I like to go through this one on occasion as well. They go hand in hand since most of our users have Nexus or Pixel devices.

Hi Guys,
I'm going to have to chime in on this one.
I'm suffering the exact same problem since upgrading to 7.0.
I have tried:
cache wipe
safe mode
factory reset

None of which helped or make the slightest bit of difference.
the phone will shut off at around 30%-20% usually when you run a high drain app like maps or the camera and won't restart.it will restart however if you plug in the phone to any charger and wait until you see the charging battery animation. At which point you can unplug it turn it on and the phone will continue to discharge at a normal rate for the remainder of the battery life. like nothing happened.

I have attached a screenshot.

I am considering an RMA.

Greg.

Sorry, my mistake. I replied from my email and failed to notice it was the Nexus forum instead of the Fi forum. Here is the support link for Nexus. https://support.google.com/nexus/topic/3415522?hl=en&ref_topic=3415518

Having the exact same problem. My 6P shuts down at 15-20% battery. Factory reset didn't help. Upon reboot the battery level equals where it shut down, ie 15%. Last night interestingly it shut down at 14% and rebooted showing 3%. Running stock 7.0 Nougat.

Hi Bueno002 and Liorpauker. Please contact Support using the link supplied above by Jason, Contact is at the top right. It would also be helpful to post your comments as feedback via Settings > About Phone where they will be read and noted by the development team. You will only receive a personal response should the team require further information.

A 'bug' has been reported HERE and you can follow progress by 'starring' the issue and receive email updates if you wish.

Thank you.

I've noticed this problem a few times over the past couple months. I notice it happens when I have the phone out of my pocket and it's cold outside.

Yesterday I went skiing and it shut down at 56% I won't turn back on until I plug the charger in where it resumes charging at 56% battery life.
