Nexus 5 recovery mode "no command"

Nexus 5 no command error -unable to activate

Hello,

I have a nexus 5 that is stuck in a Google boot loop and will not go into recovery mode, nor will it power on.  When I attempt to enter recovery mode, there is a no command feedback, with dead android, and then it returns to a google boot loop, or the google signs simply stays on the screen without flashing.

None of the volume up, volume down with power button interventions are working.  Neither is the repeated pressing of the power button intervention.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I worry the phone is beyond dead.

Hello Nexus 5 - Welcome to the Nexus Help Forum!

I would recommend contacting a Nexus Support Specialist, they are very friendly and helpful. If your country is not listed then use a country whose language you do speak.

Let us know your results.

I'll try....sadly they are asking for a phone number to resolve the issue, and to have someone call me.  Oh....the irony of it all.  Also, it appears the support centre isn't open this late on Friday.   i'll have to wait until monday.   I'll keep you posted.

Benjamin,

It appears that the Nexus support specialist isn't open.  I haven't been able to submit an inquiry because it says the support centre is "currently" closed.   Even Mon-Friday.  Do you have any suggestions?

Hello,

When you are at the Android robot, does it reboot on it's own without your touching anything?  If it does, that's a power button issue my friend and can be easily fixed by a local repair shop and even by you.  There are tons of topics on this in the forums.

Regards,
Marc

Nexus 5 recovery mode "no command"
Hello Bigs,

It was a power button issue until I've fixed it.  Now I don't quite no what the issue is.  I still have some sort of faith, because the phone is still flashing Google, and will go to reboot screen, although then goes to "no command" screen.  There is still some sort of life, however fleeting, and fast.

Bro, I had the same issue a few days ago when I was trying to enter the recovery mode on my N5 on Marshmallow (6.0.1). I thought the phone was dead, tried to press power, volume up/down buttons, just as you did! Nothing seemed to work; I sort of waited for it to reboot by itself. Thanks God it did and all has been fine since then. I am not sure what actually caused the problem. Hope you're lucky as well.

Mdsadu - When you see the android laying on its back after a failed OTA, press and hold power, then tap volume up once, then release power. This will show more information on the error, if you carefully read through the message you will probably see a file that contains unexpected subject matter. This is why the OTA update fails and doesn't apply the update. The only way around this is flashing a factory image, here is some detail on how to do just that:

Here is an excellent guide on the process:  (Credit goes to TechnoBill for the awesome write up)

This is another option that will help flash stock images:

I have used it before and it works great!

If you are trying to get into recovery mode, and see an android on his back with No Command, then press and hold Power, then tap Volume Up once, then release Power.  This will display the Recovery Mode Menu.

Do not hold power too long, and do not hold both power and volume up waiting for the menu to come up.  These action will cause the Nexus to reboot.  It is actually the transition of Volume Up going from pressed to not pressed while power is pressed that forces the menu to be displayed.
