Edit or delete contacts

After you add contacts to your Android device, you can edit their details, add them to your favorites, or delete them.

Changes to contacts saved to your Google Account will sync to all your devices with the Contacts app.

Note: Android isn't the same on all devices. These instructions are for devices running Android 6.0 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.

Edit contact details

  1. Open your device's Contacts app Contacts.
  2. Tap the contact you want to edit. To edit any contacts linked to that one, tap Linked contacts.
  3. Tap Edit Edit.
  4. Enter the contact’s name, email, and phone number.
    • To add more name details, next to "Name," tap the Down arrow Down Arrow.
    • To enter more information, like a street address or notes, tap More fields.
  5. To change the photo for a contact, tap the photo, then Remove photo, Take photo, or Select photo.
  6. When you're finished, tap Save Done. If you don't see the Save icon, tap Back Back.

Add a contact to your favorites

You can put people you contact often at the top of your list.

  1. Open your device's Contacts app Contacts.
  2. Tap the contact you want to add to your favorites.
  3. At the top, tap Favorite Favorite.

Delete a contact

  1. Open your device's Contacts app Contacts.
  2. Tap the contact you want to delete.
  3. Tap More More and then Delete.
  4. Tap OK or Delete.

To delete multiple contacts at once, touch & hold each contact, then tap More More and then Delete and then Ok.
