Use battery saver

To save power when your device's battery gets low, you can set battery saver to turn on automatically. You can also turn on battery saver at any time.

Note: Some of these steps work only on Android 8.0 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.

What changes when battery saver is on

To save power with battery saver, your device:

  • Can’t use Google Maps Navigation
  • Limits vibration, location services, and most background data
  • Won't update email, messaging, or other apps that sync, until you open them
  • Turns off "Always on" display (Pixel 2 only)

Turn battery saver on or off

When battery saver is on, the top and bottom of your screen turn orange.

Tip: Battery saver turns off automatically when your device is charging.

Turn battery saver on or off yourself

  1. Swipe down from the top of your device's screen.
  2. Tap Battery Saver Battery saver.

Have battery saver turn on automatically

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Battery and then Battery saver and then Turn on automatically.
  3. Pick an option.
