Add or import contacts

You can add contacts to your device and Google Account one by one, or import them all at once.

Note: Some of this information may not apply to all devices because Android isn't exactly the same on every device. These instructions are for devices with Android 6.0 and up. See what version of Android you have.

Add a contact

  1. Open your device's Contacts app contacts.
  2. Tap Add contact .
  3. Enter the contact’s name, email, and phone number.
    • To add more name details, next to "Name," tap the Down arrow Down Arrow.
    • To add a photo, tap Change or Change photo Search by image.
    • To enter more information, like a street address or notes, tap More fields.
    • To pick which Google Account to save the contact to, tap Saving to. You can change the default Google Account in your settings.
  4. When you're finished, tap Save Done. If you don't see the Save icon, tap Back Back.

See contacts on other devices

You can see your synced contacts at Google Contacts.

Import contacts

You can import existing contacts to your Google Account.

From a SIM card

If you have a SIM card in your device, you can import contacts saved on it to your Google Account. You import the name, photo, one e-mail address and one phone number.

  1. Open your device's Contacts app contacts.
  2. Tap More More and then Import/export.
  3. Tap Import from SIM card. If you have multiple accounts on your device, select the account you want to save the contacts to.
    • To import only some contacts, tap the ones you want to save.
    • To import all contacts at once, tap More More and then Import all.
From a .vcf file

If you’ve saved contacts to a .vcf file, you can import them to your Google Account.

  1. Open your device's Contacts app contacts.
  2. Tap More More and then Import/export.
  3. Tap Import from .vcf file. If you have multiple accounts on your device, pick the account you want to save the contacts to.
  4. Tap Menu Menu.
  5. Pick the .vcf file to import.
