How to use restricted profiles

Some or all of this information applies only to devices running Android 4.3 and higher.
On a tablet you can choose which apps, features, and content a restricted user can access. For example, you can create a restricted profile to prevent a family member from using your tablet to view mature content.
You can use restricted profiles for several purposes, like these:
  • Family controls. Restrict others from viewing certain types of content.
  • Kiosk. Set up the tablet to demonstrate selected apps and features to customers.
  • Retail. Let customers explore tablet features, but prevent them from browsing or playing games.
  • Point of sale. Only let employees use selected sales and register apps.

Note: Only the device owner can create, edit, and delete restricted profiles.

Create a restricted profile
  1. Open the Settings app Settings.
  2. Under “Device,” touch Users.
  3. Touch Add user or profile.
  4. Touch Restricted profile. The new profile with a list of settings shows up. To name the profile, touch New profile.
  5. To choose the features and settings the user can access, use the ON/OFF toggles and Settings .
  6. If you're with the new user: Touch the Back arrow Back arrow, and then touch the new user to set up their Google Account and other details.
If the new user isn't around: Touch the Back arrow Back arrow. The next time they switch to their user, they can follow to screen to set up their Google Account and other details.

The restricted user’s homescreen is empty after setting it up. Learn how to add apps and widgets to the homescreen.
