Delete, switch or add users

You can share your device with family and friends by creating a user profile for each person. Each user profile has a personal space on the device for custom Home screens, accounts, apps, settings and more. Learn about what users can do.

Important: Some of these steps work only on Android 9 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.

The Pixel battery continuously learns your behaviours and optimises itself based on your most recent app usage. When you set up a new device or after a factory reset, optimisation may take up to a few weeks to take full effect. For best results keep Adaptive Battery and Battery Optimisation on.

It's normal for your Pixel battery to drain a little more than usual after a software update. This is because the phone is working hard to download and optimise the new software and get everything up and running.

If you still experience unusual battery drain after a few days, please let us know and we'll be happy to help.

Types of user profiles

User

A user who isn't the device owner is the profile type for someone who may use your device a lot, like a family member.

All users have their own spaces on the device for personal, custom home screens, accounts, apps, settings and more.

Guest

A guest profile is for someone using your device for a short time.

Like a user, the guest profile has its own space on the device, but it's easier to delete this space when a guest has finished using the device.

Account

An account lets you use a service like Gmail with a single username and password.

Restricted profile (tablets only)

A restricted profile lets you control what features and content a user can see. For example, you can restrict the availability of mature content.

Child user
A child user lets you add a child account to the device. You can use an existing child account or create a new one. Parents can access parental controls and manage screen time, apps and more with the Google Family Link app. Learn how to create a Google Account for your child.
