Project your Android device’s screen

To use Miracast, you need a device running Android 4.4 or higher. To use Chromecast, you need a device running Android 4.4.2 or higher.

You can project your phone or tablet’s screen to a TV (or other device). This can be a great way to share your photos or watch a video on a big screen.

You can use one of the following methods to start projecting your device’s screen:

  • Android mirroring using a Chromecast device. Learn more about Chromecast availability and using your Chromecast.
  • Wireless display using a Miracast adaptor. For more information about Miracast, see the documentation that came with your Miracast-certified device or visit the Wi-Fi Alliance website.
  • Project your device’s screen

    You can project your Android device's screen to your TV using either the the Settings menu or the Quick Settings menu on your device.

    Use Settings to project your device’s screen

    To project your device’s screen using the Settings menu, follow these steps:

    1. Open your device's Settings menu.
    2. Under “Device,” touch Display > Cast screen.
    3. Touch the Menu icon, then check the box next to “Enable wireless display.”
    4. Wait for several seconds until your device detects the Miracast dongle, Chromecast dongle, or your TV. Once it shows up in the list, touch the icon to connect.
    5. Your device’s screen will appear on your TV or monitor.
    6. To stop projecting your screen, simply swipe down the notification shade with two fingers from the top of your screen and touch Disconnect.

    Use Quick Settings to project your device’s screen

    Make sure you have the box next to "Enable wireless display" in Settings checked before using Quick Settings to project your screen.

    To project your screen using Quick Settings, follow these steps:

    1. Swipe down the notification shade with two fingers from the top of any screen.
    2. Touch the Quick Settings icon at the top right of your screen.
    3. Touch Cast Screen.
    4. You’ll see a list of Chromecast or Miracast devices on your Wi-Fi network.

    5. Touch the name of the device you want to project your screen to.
    6. To stop projecting your screen, simply open Quick Settings again, touch Cast Screen, and then touch Disconnect.

    Supported Nexus & Google Play edition devices

    Chromecast

    The following Nexus and Google Play edition devices can share their screens with Chromecast:

    • Nexus 4
    • Nexus 5
    • Nexus 7 (2013)
    • Nexus 10
    • Samsung G S 4 Google Play edition
    • HTC One (M7) Google Play edition
