During routine maintenance, a number of users were signed-out from their Google accounts. If you were affected, please sign back in using your usual username and password at https://accounts.google.com. If you can’t remember your password or can’t sign in for another reason, recover your account password here. For security reasons, our support agents are unable to assist with password issues.

Add or remove an account

You can add accounts to your Android phone or tablet. When you add an account, information associated with that account automatically syncs with your device. To get apps from the Google Play Store, you'll need an account on your device.

If you're using a device with multiple users, make sure to sign in as the right user before changing account information.

Note: Android isn't the same on all devices. These instructions are for devices running Android 7.0 and up. Check which version of Android you have.

Add an account to your device

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings.
  2. Under "Personal," tap Accounts and then Add account
  3. Tap the type of account you want to add.
    • To add your Google Account, tap Google. When you sign in with a Google Account, the email, contacts, calendar events, and other data associated with that account automatically sync with your device.
    • To add a different personal account, tap Personal (IMAP) or Personal (POP3). You'd generally choose these if you use an email program like Microsoft Outlook or Apple Mail. Learn how to use IMAP or POP3 with Gmail.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. If you're adding accounts, you may need to enter your device's pattern, PIN, or password for security.

Tip: If you'd like to lend your device to a friend, you can learn how to create a separate user or temporary guest, instead of adding an account.

Remove an account from your device

When you remove an account from your device, everything associated with that account is also deleted from your device. This includes email, contacts, and settings.

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings.
  2. Under "Personal," tap Accounts
  3. Tap the account you want to remove. If it's your Google Account, first tap Google.
  4. Tap More More and then Remove account.
  5. If this is the only Google Account on the device, you'll need to enter your device's pattern, PIN, or password for security.
