Type by sliding your finger

You can quickly spell out words by sliding your finger from letter to letter on Gboard.

Note: This kind of typing isn’t available in all languages.

Note: Android isn't the same on all devices. These instructions are for devices running Android 7.0 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.

Write text by sliding your finger

  1. Tap an area where you can enter text.
  2. Slide your finger across the letters of the word you want, then lift your finger.
  3. You’ll see a word in the message field.
  4. To edit a word, type the changes or choose a suggestion.
  5. When you’re done, tap Send Send.

Delete text by sliding your finger

  1. Tap an area where you can enter text.
  2. Tap where you want to put your cursor.
  3. To delete words, swipe left while you touch and hold Backspace Delete.

Change your typing settings

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings.
  2. Under "Personal," tap Language & input.
  3. Under "Keyboard & input methods," tap Virtual keyboard.
  4. Tap Gboard and then Glide typing.
  5. Choose from the options.
