Add apps & widgets to your Home screens

You can customize your Home screens so you can quickly get to your favorite apps and content.

Get to know your Home screens

Your Home screens are the first screens you see when you turn on or unlock your device, and what you see when you don't have an app open.

  • Get to your Home screens from anywhere
Get back to your Home screens by touching the Home button Home (it can look different on some devices).
  • Swipe between Home screens
You can have multiple pages of Home screens. Swipe right or left to navigate between them.
  • Swipe right to get to Google Now
Get to Google Now by swiping to the Home screen all the way to the left. To set this up, turn on Google Now. On some devices, you may also need the Google Now Launcher.

Add apps and widgets to your Home screens

You can add apps to your Home screens to get to them more quickly. You can also add widgets, which let you see information like stock prices or weather without opening an app.

Note: Some of this information may not apply to all devices because Android isn't exactly the same on every device.

Add an app to a Home screen
  1. On your Home screen, touch the All Apps icon Apps menu.
  2. Touch and hold an app. You’ll see images of each Home screen.
  3. Slide the app to a Home screen image, then lift your finger.
Add a widget to a Home screen

Widgets usually come with apps so you don't need to download them separately. Here's how to get to the widgets on your device:

  1. Touch and hold any empty space on a Home screen.
  2. Touch Widgets.
  3. Touch and hold a widget. You’ll see images of each Home screen.
  4. Slide the widget to a Home screen image, then lift your finger.

Some widgets can be resized:

  1. Touch and hold the widget, then let go. If the widget can be resized, you'll see an outline with dots on the sides.
  2. Drag the dots to resize the widget.
  3. Touch anywhere outside the widget when you're done.
Move apps and widgets
  1. On your Home screen, touch and hold an app or widget. You’ll see images of each Home screen.
  2. Slide the widget to a Home screen image or location, then lift your finger.
Create a folder for apps
  1. On your Home screen, touch and hold an app icon.
  2. Drag the app icon on top of another app icon.
  3. Add more apps by dragging each app into the folder.
  4. To rename the folder, touch its name.
Remove an app or widget
  1. Touch and hold the app or widget on your Home screen.
  2. Drag it to the top where it says  Remove.
Add, rearrange, or remove Home screens

You can add Home screens so you have more pages for your apps.

Get more Home screens
