Get the most life from your Android device's battery

Important:

You can take several actions to extend your device’s battery life and make a charge last longer.

Tip: Your device’s battery life depends on the type of device that you have. Get help with your specific device on your manufacturer’s support site.

Choose settings that use less battery

Depending on your device, you can:
  • Let your screen turn off sooner.
  • Reduce screen brightness.
  • Set the brightness to change automatically.
  • Turn off keyboard sounds or vibrations.
  • Restrict apps with high battery use.
  • Turn on Adaptive Battery.
  • Delete unused accounts.
  • Turn on Dark theme.

To learn how to change these settings, visit your device manufacturer’s support site.

Take care of your battery

Use the power adaptor that came with your phone
Other power adaptors and chargers can charge slowly or not at all. They can also damage your phone or battery. For more information about the charger for your phone, contact your device manufacturer.
Keep it cool
Avoid situations where your phone can overheat, especially when your battery is fully charged. Your battery drains much faster when it's hot, even when not in use. This kind of drain can damage your battery.
Charge as much or as little as needed
You don’t need to teach your phone the battery’s capacity by going from full charge to zero, or zero to full. We recommend that you occasionally drain your battery to under 10% and then charge it fully overnight.

Stretch a low battery

Turn on Battery Saver or low power mode
Some Android phones come with a Battery Saver or low power mode, which helps a charge last longer. To find out if your phone has one, go to your device manufacturer’s support site.

Turn on Battery Saver mode manually

  1. On your phone, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Battery and then Battery Saver.
  3. Choose a schedule for Battery Saver mode or automatically turn it off.

Tip: When Battery Saver is on, it turns on Dark theme and limits or turns off background activity; some visual effects, certain features, network connections and apps may experience delays in this mode.

Avoid actions that keep the screen on
To save battery life, try not to:
  • Use navigation for long periods.
  • Watch videos.
  • Play graphics-heavy games.
Avoid constant connection
To save battery life, try not to:
  • Tether your phone (hotspots).
  • Use GPS for long periods.
  • Stream videos or music.
  • Make phone calls on the move, like in a car.
Avoid actions that process too much information
To save battery life, try not to:
  • Use the camera too much.
  • Play highly interactive games.
  • Use apps for long periods.
Limit connectivity & location
  • If you don’t need your mobile network, turn on aeroplane mode Aeroplane mode.
  • Use Wi-Fi instead of mobile data.
  • Turn off Bluetooth.
  • Turn off location access. Some apps and features won’t work when location is off.

Fix battery problems that won’t go away
