Google News for mobile and tablet devices

Optimize your site for multiple devices

When optimizing your news content across devices, you may find it helpful to check out Google's Multi-Screen Resources site. The site includes steps to get started, recommendations on how to build a great user experience, and tips on how to measure success.

Technical guidelines for Google News

If your desktop site is already included in Google News, your site will automatically appear in the mobile and tablet versions of Google News. If you have a mobile or tablet specific version of your site, following the technical guidelines below should help our crawler find and index articles from these versions of your site correctly:

  • If you have a mobile or tablet specific version of your site, we ask that you set up a redirect for this traffic so that when users visit your site from Google News on a mobile or tablet device they get the best possible experience reading your content.
  • Our automated crawler is currently best able to crawl regular XHTML links. We are unable to crawl image links or links embedded in JavaScript.

If your publication has an Android app, you may be interested in deep linking to your in-app content. This will give users that have installed your app the option to read news content directly in your app. Learn more about how to get started with deep linking here.

Mobile app highlighting

You can also highlight your iOS or Android app below your Editors’ Picks feed on our homepage. Learn more here.
