Google News Inclusion - FAQ
1
Hi everyone,

We wanted to help answer several common questions we’ve been seeing about news on Google.

First, we want to help distinguish Google News from news found in Google Search.

  • Google News connects people with stories that matter to them. It includes features to help people stay informed about top news, see more of preferred topics and news sources, and gain broader context and additional perspectives. It is available through mobile apps and on the web at news.google.com.

  • News in Google Search helps you learn about what’s happening in the world through an organized experience of top stories, articles, videos, and more. The Top stories feature aims to display relevant, high-quality results for a news topic. For broader context, the News tab displays more news articles for a given search.

Second, we want to help clarify the role of Publisher Center:

  • Last December, we launched the ability for publishers to more easily manage their content across news products in the new Publisher Center.

  • Publishers can submit their publication information through Publisher Center to manage and enhance their presence on news products and experiences. However, use of Publisher Center is not a requirement for eligibility to appear in Google News or news surfaces, as explained next.

Third, we want to help clarify the process of appearing in Google News & other news surfaces, such as the Top Stories carousel in Search or the news tab in Search.

  • All publishers who comply with news content policies are eligible to appear within Google News and other news surfaces. Publishers do not need to submit their site to be eligible to appear. Our systems automatically identify new high-quality sites for news, and we are always working to make improvements.

  • How publishers rank is determined automatically by a variety of factors, including relevance of content, prominence, authoritativeness, freshness, location and language. Content may be eligible, but that doesn’t mean it will rank well.

  • Content displayed by the site: command on Google News or in the News tab of Search does not mean your publication’s content will appear for keyword searches within Google News or Search. It simply shows all content Google has found from a particular site.
