Ranking within Google News

Google News aims to promote original journalism and expose users to diverse perspectives. It doesn't accept payments to expedite or improve a site's search appearance or ranking. Participation in an advertising program like AdSense has no effect on the ranking of your site in Google News or on any other Google search engine.

Ranking in Google News is algorithmically influenced by a range of factors, including:

  • Relevance of content
  • Prominence
  • Authoritativeness
  • Freshness
  • Usability
  • Location and language

Algorithms may personalise your news for these sections:

  • 'For you' in Home
  • Topics, sources and locations in Following
  • 'Picks for you' stories in your briefing
  • Your topics
  • Local news
  • Notifications

Algorithms personalise your news based on certain factors, including your interests, either that you’ve specified or that we inferred from your past activity on Google products and YouTube, depending on your activity settings.
