Create & update pricing plans

After you create a publication and set up a paywall or contributions request, you can create or update your pricing plans in the Publisher Center.

A pricing plan is a combination of a price and a recurrence period. For example, you may create one pricing plan with a $10 USD monthly payment and another pricing plan with a $100 USD annual payment.

Create pricing

  1. Open Publisher Center.
  2. Select your publication.
  3. Click Reader Revenue Manager.
  4. Under “Menu,” select the pricing plan that you want to set up.
    • For subscriptions: Click Paywall and then Add plan.
    • For contributions: Click Contribution amount and then Add amount.
  5. Complete the required fields:
    • Plan name (subscriptions only): Name your pricing plan so readers know which plan to choose. For example, if you create pricing plans for both a monthly and an annual subscription, you may name your plans “Monthly Subscription” and “Annual Subscription.”
    • Billing period: Choose a recurring billing period that gives the reader access for a period of time. Readers are charged automatically after the period elapses. Publishers can choose from Monthly, Quarterly, Half-yearly, or Annually.
    • Trial period (subscriptions only): Select a length of time that readers have access to the content without charge. You can choose from No trial period, 7 days, 14 days, 30 days, or 60 days.
    • Price: Set the price for your plan, which readers will find in the primary currency of your account.
    • Benefits: Add up to 3 brief messages of 40 characters or fewer that explain why readers should subscribe. For example, you can say readers get unlimited access to premium content. Readers can find the benefits for an offer when they’re in the purchase flow.
      • This section won't influence functionality on your site.
    • Product ID: Add a product ID to label pricing plans. You should apply the same product ID to all pricing plans you want to show on the same pages on your site. This is used to add to posts in your publication’s content management system.
      • For example, a subscription plan may allow a reader to view pages tagged with “basic_subscription,” but an alternate subscription plan focused on local readers may include access to both the “basic_subscription” and “special_local_content” plans.
  6. Click Create.

Update plan status

For a pricing plan to show on your site, you must change the status to Live. Reader Revenue Manager supports the following pricing plan statuses:

  • Draft: Initial default state.
  • Live: Live offers are available to users on your website.
  • Archived: These plans don’t show on your website. However, users with valid entitlements associated with these plans can continue to access content.

By default, all pricing plans are created as Draft. To make a plan Live:

  1. Open Publisher Center.
  2. Select your publication.
  3. Click Reader Revenue Manager.
  4. Under “Menu,” click Paywall or Contribution amount and then All plans.
    • You’ll find all your plans in "Draft", "Live", or "Archived" status.
  5. Under “Status,” click Down arrow and then Make live.

Edit existing plans

If you’ve already added pricing, you can add new pricing or edit Draft pricing for your publication.

Important: All offer descriptions must comply with applicable laws and regulations including local law, export control and sanctions laws, and regulations that apply to your distribution or use of products.

To edit existing plans:

  1. Open Publisher Center.
  2. Select your publication.
  3. Click Reader Revenue Manager.
  4. Under “Menu,” select the pricing plan that you want to edit.
    • For subscriptions: Click Paywall.
    • For contributions: Click Contribution amount.
    • You’ll find all your plans in "Draft", "Live", and "Archived" status.
  5. Navigate to a plan in "Draft."
  6. Under “Status,” click Down arrow .
  7. Select the correct status.

Tip: You can only edit plans in Draft status. Live and Archived plans can’t be edited.
