Mobile and tablet interfaces

Google News mobile and tablet interfaces are specifically formatted and optimised for touchscreen phones and tablet devices. Based on your device type, you will be automatically directed to the best Google News view for your device. If you've been redirected, we've identified that your device will display content more clearly in a tablet or mobile specific view.

If you prefer the classic tablet Google News view:

  • On a phone, click on the Classic view link at the bottom of the Google News front page.
  • On a tablet, tap on the gear icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen, select Settings, untick the box next to "Use the new Google News (untick to revert to the older version)" and click on Save changes.

If your phone doesn't have a fully-featured web browser, to better format web pages to fit your phone, simply follow these three steps:

  1. Click on the Preferences link on the Google homepage.
  2. Select On under Format web pages for your phone.
  3. Click Save.

Because some content isn't written specifically for mobile or tablet devices and therefore may not be displayed properly, Google may resize or convert images, text formatting and certain aspects of web page functionality to ensure that the highest quality is displayed on your mobile or tablet device.
